My question is what 16 inch rims (steel or alloy) 6 lug, 5.5 inch centers will fit on '79 K5s?

I have 15 inch rims on my 77 and 79, but want to find 16 inch rims that will fit them and put tires on the 16 inch rims. I'm mainly concerned about clearance or interference between the front hub and the rear drum boss/flange and the center bore of the rims.

Have anyone of you done this rim swap?

back space is deeper = possible tie rod hitting back side of rims.

center hub hole = to small = machine shop time to bore them out .

Buddy put a set of factory alloys off a 88-98 Chevy on my old k20 we put halfs under. He needed 2" spacers on the front and I bored the hubs out. Think I took about a half inch or so out of the center.

Wow BT! I like it!

I picked up two 15" rims w/tires yesterday off a '92 4Runner. Back space is the same, ID is bigger, so 16" 4Runner rims might be an option too.

Im about to try a set of Toyota Tacoma wheels on my 82 half ton. Im concerned about backspacing of 5.25. Might need a spacer to name it work. Ill know tomorrow.

Man,
Three trips later to Discount Tire, I've got my Unique 297 16" rims and Cooper pizza cutter tires on my '79. First trip they mounted the tires/rims on the K5 without the center caps which they forgot to order.....
Second trip was to install the forgotten center caps. The caps they put on were knock offs (first pic) from something, but not the Unique caps the should have come with the new rims. So I went back in with pictures from Unique and from Discount's site showing the Unique brand center caps that should have come with the rims, the manager (I think) was trying to tell me that they had been discontinue so the got the next closest cap. He story changed when I told him that according to Unique and Discount Tire Corp. office say otherwise. He got on the phone while I was standing at the counter and ordered them. Also asked if I wanted black or chrome, ha. Discontinued my ###.

The third trip was to install Unique caps, (second pic).

Well, Tacoma wheels hit the tie rod. If you ran a 1/2" or more spacer thug would be fine. I won't be doing that but I wanted to finalize what I said earlier

Thanks for the feedback, good info to know. Do you know what the backspace is on the Tacoma rims are? The 4Runner rims I put on the back of my '77 had the same back space as the rally rims, 3.5 inch, I think?

Backspacing was 5.25" on the Tacoma wheels. A 1/2" spacer would allow them to fit on the front. They contacted the tie rod by about 3/8" it wasn't much.
