I know this isn't quite K5 related but I trust you guys more than anyone else when it comes to GM related topics.

I'm looking at later model GM Trucks (Silverado 2500 and Sierra 2500, 4x4, 2000-2002 models) and I can't seem to find which transmissions GM mated with the Vortec 6.0L engine. Did they use the 4L80E like a 3/4 truck should have, or did they use the 4L60E just like they do with the Vortec 5.3L, or could you get either with the 6.0L? I know the Dmax and 8.1 liter were available with the Allison but I've searched around and can't figure out which specific transmission the Vortec 6000 used. How about rear ends? I'm assuming the 3/4 tons used 14bolt sf?

Thanks,

Wes

i bet 4l80-e with the 6.0 and look for a tapered in back side of the pan. not all square at the corners. and the alison is easy as it has a spin on filter on the front left corner.

I've been looking on autotrader so it's difficult to figure out. I wish it was as simple as figuring out the engine thats in the truck (just look at the 8th digit in the VIN). Apparently the transmission is just listed in the RPO codes on the tag but that info isn't exactly on autotrader.

Thanks for the replies,

Wes

all the 6.0 i've seen have the 4l80, but i've heard they have the allison as an option.

6.0s only came with a 4l80e, you have to get a big block or a Duramax to get the Alison trans. The rear end would be a 14 bolt semi float in a 1500 or 2500, while the 2500 HD would have a 14 bolt full float.

I don't think they ever put in a 11.5" AAM in a 2500HD, possibly in a 3500. Not very many 3500s with a 6.0l so I'm not sure on that.
