I just scored a 1970 F250 4x4 tonight as a trade for some help I have given to this guys kid on his 87 K10.

I haven't got to actually check it out but it has a 300 6 cyl and 4 speed.

What can I expect to find on it that would be of value for any of our builds?

Since it is a 3/4 ton would it have a good front axle or are they drivers side drop?

What about the transfer case, would it possibly work for a doubler?

I have NO experience on Fords so I do not know what to look for or what might be usable on any of our rigs.

It is a flatbed/ranch truck so I do not expect too much here but maybe it will surprise me.

I don't claim to be an expert on Ford's but...

Should be a Dana 44, kingpin style (not desirable, they're tiny and hard to get parts for) with drum brakes. Driver's side drop, high pinion, tiny universal joints, not a desirable axle.

The t-case is likely a divorced Dana 24, again, not desirable.

So, to someone that likes old Fords, that might be a cool truck. For parts, there really isn't anything there worth swapping into anything else.

Thanks guys, and Jeff.... I had not thought of that.

Course I would have you be the driver as I don't have the "cahones" to drive that course well enough to be competitive.:doah:

Well.... an update.

I got the truck back to my shop and pulled the flatbed off of it and hauled it to the scrapper...$154.00

Spent about an hour with the pressure washer and it seems to have some good pieces for someone needing something for a restore or a fixer upper.

Hey ,383, you were dead on on your prediction with the drum brakes and transfer case. I bet there is a real market for the hubs and some if not most of the 4x4 setup since it is complete.

I am going to try to load a pic but I expect that it will be way too large so, I apologize in advance.

That thing is sweet. Throw a bed on it and get 4 grand for it somewhere in the midwest.

Those years of F250's won't have anything desirable on them at all unless you find the collector who restores them or to a farmer who can use it on the farm.

Nothing special about the drivetrain at all. Even the D60 rear isn't sought after since it has 16 splines on the shafts. Front axle will be the closed knuckle design and as mentioned above it has drum brakes.

About the only "valuable" thing on that truck is maybe the transmission. Ifs its the 4 speed, it will likely be a T18 I believe as the NP435 didn't come out in them until a little later.

If the body is rust free and in good shape, it could be worth something to a Ford enthusiast looking for those pieces to restore their old trucks.

Other than that, you're SOL. I love Highboys personally and would restore yours but even if I did a resto, I'd be swapping tons of the drivetrain out for newer and upgraded parts.

If you don't want to mess with it, I'd list it on eBay as you'd probably fetch a grand or more for it as-is.

The hard parts in the truck aren't worth much to us that swap stronger parts into old trucks, but that is one SERIOUSLY nice old Ford.

PLEASE do not let it go to the crusher, there are lots of guys out there that would love to have it. :pimp:

No, no plans to send it to the scrapper as I have the room to store it and wait for the guy who needs it to come around.

I am playing around with fixing it up to keep it as a bump around the hills kind of truck.

Not a Ford guy at all but this thing only has a heater and radio for options so it is pretty no nonsense and easy to maintain.

If it makes you feel better, I have a '75 Highboy in my shop awaiting a new body. Its sitting on 4" Skyjacker front and rear springs. I love these trucks to death!
