Leaf spring what if question...

I have a 77 Jimmy frame with a FSJ Jeep body on it that I just transplanted a complete set of 10" superlift leafs off of a Burb. No blocks are being used and I would like to move the front axle forward an inch or two. Im not happy with the height on the front in that it sits about 4 to 5 inches taller than the back when I installed them. I removed the 2 smaller springs out of the front pack and now it sits about 3" higher than the back. I have been told to drive it and let the springs settle for a while. Then I plan on relocating the front spring hanger a couple inches further forward allowing the springs to flatten out and that will allow me to move the axle forward a bit.

So the question is if I then add one of the spring leafs that I removed will it then continue to settle or will it be back to full rigidity and stop the sag at that point?

Called the local spring guys and they were all good till I threw the adding a spring back in. Started getting a lot of wells, and Hemming and Hawing.

What do you think?
 
There aren't any 10" lift springs for the rear of your truck, the tallest rear springs Superlift makes for that truck are 8" which may explain why it sits lower in the rear.

Moving the front hanger forward will not let the springs flatten out, in fact, moving the front spring hanger forward while leaving the rear one in place will make the shackle flip forward and bend the spring.

Got ya Chris. Thus the reason the rear springs had that little 2" block. Either way its too high in the front so I guess just letting them settle in is the mode for now? :whistle: I checked the part number off the front and just ASS U Me'ed they were the same height in the rear as well.
 
How many leafs in the pack? Maybe you can pull another one? If these are new springs, why not just sell them and buy something lower?

original pack has 6, I still have 4. They are new springs but have been on the donor rig for I'm guessing a year or so un used. Guess I could go to the hassle of pulling them off repackaging them advertise them and sell them, Then go buy replacements springs... But I would rather make these work if I can. :waytogo:

I'm one of those kind of guys... I know, you don't need to say it! :dunno:
 
You can always put the 2 inch block in to make it even out. With the keep body on it you shouldn't get too much spring flex either way. Way light for those springs. You could probably go to 3 leafs and be fine.
 
You need new springs

You can't keep taking out leaves and keep bending the steel, it can only bend so far until it stops bending back
 
I pulled leaves out of an 8" superlift pack and destroyed them within a year.
 
Yeah it depends on the weight originally supposed to be on them as well the thickness of the individual leaves will only allow so much give til it does permanent damage happens. If you can find someone to buy them and get the exact one you need it will work better I'm sure. But it's your truck and you can mess with the springs because you have them and they're free ATM. New springs will be 6-700 for front and rears depending on where you get them.
