Ive seen a few things about it recently and seems to relate to go fast leaf sprung rigs... Thought this area could use a pick me up.
Reasoning, pros/cons, esplain please

Does it make the suspension work better in a go fast rig? Smoother ride? Axle wrap can be taken care of with antiwrap bars so theres gotta be more reasoning.

Adam it has mostly to do with eliminating axle wrap. It also lets you give the springs some arch and keep the rig low. Helping compression

My friend's chevy is spring under up front, I'll see if I can get him to post some pics and a little info on his setup in here...

Well shoot, I didn't realize this section wasn't available unless you were a member. He said he can't get in here. Here's his truck from the xxx lift thread...

He's an old member on here and just doesn't want to pay up anymore. Not much new stuff going on here these days and after years and years of the same stuff I see how it could get old.

If you think about how desert trucks are setup it becomes pretty clear. First off you have to be able to get on the power and have it there. If you are 4wd then that power has to get to the ground. If you are spring over you run the risk of axle hop. Spring under cannot eliminate axle hop but it can minimize it. If you are axle is hopping every time you are on and off the power it wears out components faster. Not to mention that your shocks are moving that much more, shock fade is huge in a desert truck. Anything you can do to minimize that effect is helpful.

Like has been said you can run a longer spring with more arch. Having some arch in your spring will allow you to run more compression with less problems. Compression is king in the desert you don't need to droop your axle way out you need it to compress when it hits a bump, if it doesn't compress then that movement gets taken up by well the truck moving overall not just the suspension. This of course can cause loss of control.

Also you don't need the clearnance in the desert like you do in the rocks. Most spring under guys are running their u bolts pointing up anyway so it only reduces it a couple inches. In addition to that if you hit an obstacle at speed with the lowest parts of your truck ( leaf spring) in a spring over when that obstacle gets to the axle bad stuff happens, in a spring under it tends to just continue to slide not always but it can.

Spring under works awesome in the desert and honestly in a trail riding do it all rig if you are keeping leaf springs, a spring under is not a bad way to go. If you are a rock guy ( or a web wheeler) then flex is usually where its at, all other things being equal a spring over will give you more flex.

When a spring under rig has aftermarket leafs designed for it, they can flex very well though

Thanks Dude! I dont need no stinking flex! :D this has me thinkin alot. So you just put perches on the bottom? Hows that work with the pass side on the axle? Isnt the perch part of the pig? I havnt looked in a while but i feel that it is on my 10 bolt. Could ord design a set of springs to gimme a bit of lift and run leaf under with using the stock spring mounting locations? (sorry i cant make paragraphs on my phone)
