So all I'm doing is replacing the belts because one of them is wining when I start the engine. The wine goes away after a few seconds of idling. So, I get the belts off and discover a leak that seems to be coming from between the pulley and the body of the P/S pump. There was absolutely no leak before I took the belts off.

Anyone seen this?

I hate to mention this and it will sound FUBAR but long ago doing a pump swap on a 350 I put the bolts back in different holes than they came out of. They all were within a 1/4 of each other would grab full threads. Unfortunatly one of them was long enough to hit the resevior and poped a small hole in it,no dent,no nada just a clean bolt sixed flap like a beer can half away opened. I cant remeber the specifics of which bolt, front or back but it happened.
If I was you at any rate id suck out all the old fluid and start with some fresh. I do my rigs every now and again and it seems to work wonders for whines and groans.

well I just took the pump out and I'm pretty sure its leaking near the shaft behind the pulley. how do I get the pulley off. Is there some sort of special wrench for holding the pulley?

you need a p/s puller installer/removal tool, it threads onto the shaft, then has a 2 jaw clamp that goes inside the grove on the end of the pulley, then you crank down the bolt and it pulls the pulley off. Then using other adapter that come in the kit you can reinstall it.

well, I sprung for the tool, got the pulley off and found the problem. Similar to the above mistake, when I was pry the pump over to get the belt off, I bend the casing enough to brake the seal between it and the pump. So, I guess I'm getting a new pump.

Oh yeah, BTDT :doah: Never EVER pry against the reservoir (the outer tank) ... it's dang thin :(
