I noticed today that my resevoir is leaking out of the cap and the cap appears to be a little loose.

Any fixes? This worries me.. I'm seeing fluid running down the resevoir. That's the only leak.. stops good but my fluid was a little low.

Mine does that too, I put a piece of bike inner tube in there to try to tighten it up but it didn't work. Hopefully someone has a solution otherwise I am getting a new master cylinder

How is the seal itself?

What kind of master? Plastic snap on cap or metal with the wire clips over it? I can't even recall if the plastic style uses a seal.

Swoop in and jack this, mine is the metal type with the wire clip. The seal is in pretty good shape too:dunno:

Huh. If the seal is good it's gotta be either the lid being dented, or the wire clips being bent out of shape.

Assuming it's a rebuild, could be malformed parts.

Did it ever seal? Seems like a waste (both in money and time) to replace for that reason alone, but unless you go to a wrecking yard and get a new top and the clips, can't think of anything more cost/time effective than just replacing.

I think it might be the original from 73, so it might just be time to replace it. The top doesn't look bent but the clip looks stretched. It gets down to about half after every trip out, and towards the end of the day I usually get soft brakes

I link tinkering, so I'd probably go to a wrecking yard and get the clips or play with the ones on there and see if they'll get tighter.

But a rebuilt unit should get rid of the problem completely. Shouldn't lose anything out of the reservoir of course.

Mine never leaked until recently, and it'll move around on it's own. The seal looks good.. I have the metal resevoir.

I'll try bending the snap over bracket a bit and see what happens.
