My tranny has always had a slight leak. I recently changed the fluid and filter and now it's gotten a lot worse. The pan is leaking at the front corners. I am going to drop it and check for straightness. Which gasket material is better, cork or rubber. I have the rubber one now. Also, the pan is not over torqued.

I've used both kinds on my vehicles over they years but lately I really like the rubber gaskets with the little metal inserts in the bolt holes so you can't over tighten it and squish the gasket. Makes it almost idiot proof. :D

this i agree. if you cannot get them, a cork one with a thin layer of silicone spread against the pan before setting the gasket on and installing to the trans will help

I had the same exact issue a few months ago.... turned out the rubber gasket from autozone was a POS...

My pan is cast aluminum ,,so I knew the thin stamped metal bolthole bending deal was not the cause....

I retorqued the pan several times....still leaked...

I finally changed the gasket to a moroso metal reinforced silicone gasket and it worked perfect...:waytogo:

I use a small ball peen hammer on the side of the pan that mates with the transmission and make it so the area around the bolt holes is poking down toward the bolt heads slightly and make sure the pan itself isn't warped. (mechanic friend told me about doing that.) I like the rubber infused cork type gaskets.

I haven't seen the ones you speak of with the steel re-enforcement or metal tabs in the bolt holes. Guess I will look for those.

DONT GET A CHROME PAN

lots of guys here have tryed them and failed and swaped back on there stockers. the chrome stuff basicly sucks from others storys and my own dealings with it.

like others have said check flatness of pan rails. rubber gasket bone dry on install all surfaces. add a drain plug to your urrent pan .

and if you want a new pan spend a few more bucks and get a aluminum for more capacity / better cooling .

I have been fighting a small leak on my TH350 even though I have new allum pan. I tried a felpro gasket.. was better but still leaked a little. So I tighten up the bolts a little more and made is worse...dammit. I know you have to be careful about over tightening the bolts... I may have went a little overboard.

Im going to try one of the Moroso gaskets above.... those looks pretty nice.

the shift selector shaft is known to be a leak point also....they make a little tool to pull the seal while it is still in the truck...

also the governor cover and servo piston cover can leak and appear to be a pan gasket leak....

best thing I can suggest is use a can of brake clean... a few rags and clean the transmission case as much as you can.... (wear eye protection !!! )

take it for a short spin and then get up under the truck with a strong flashlight and look for fluid running down the case....

when my pan gasket was leaking... just sitting overnight would saturate the aluminum fins on the bottom of the pan...

I could clean and dry the pan off and then with a strong LED flashlight, I could see the fluid wick its way across the aluminum casting....:eek1:

I also changed the shift seal and it stays nice and dry now..:waytogo: :woot:

thanks alot, I was searching everywhere for the moroso one!

I just ordered an aluminum pan with drain...this will be a good mate for it. NO MORE pan leak....i hope

Fel-pro rubber gaskets with steel sandwiched inside are called "Perma dry plus". Put them on real clean and dry, there usually light blue or black, there 2x the price, I use them on everything. I use my stock th350 pan. Try and use one that has the rib all the way around, seals better and helps keep it from warping. If you use a regular gasket with the right stuff let it dry before you put in the tranny fluid.
