My wife's 86 K5 leaks transmission fluid when driving at HWY speeds. I don't see where it's coming from, but I find fluid on the tailgate after driving. We're running 33's on it with the stock 3.08 gearing and the 700R4. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I would clean it all up first with brake cleaner and start checkin for drips.

Check your shifter seal on the trans.

The leak could be from either the tranny or the transfer case. One of them should be getting low? The oil is obviously red? I had a leaking rear axle pinion seal that showed up on the tailgate. I've had leaking gear boxes but I've never seen tranny fluid out back.

make sure it's not over full, it could be blowing it out the vent when cruising down the freeway.

I pulled the threads that hold the adaptor into the trans out. That will leak quite a bit started out small but got huge when I finally figured it out. I have also leaked gear oil out the diff. Put a vent tube on that and fixed that problem. BTW I helicoiled the trans never had a problem since
