When I bought my k-5 from previous PO the transmission fluid was low so I filled it up. The vehicle did sit for quite a while so hopefully it's just a worn seal/ gasket. Quick question the fluid leaking is pink/red if the fluid was bad (burnt) before would it look red/ pink while it's leaking now? Trans shifts smooth so hopefully the gasket just needs to be changed. It's leaking just a little bit about a teaspoon and a half or so. I am assuming this is normal right?

Some people might accept leaking as normal, but it drives me crazy.

Are you sure you didn't overfill it?

Where is it leaking from?

Overfill is possible. Buddy just poured some in without measuring. I guess I should get it warm and then check level? Where would the leak be coming from if it's overfill?

Mine was leaking from the pan gasket when I bought it too. I hate the pans Chevy used cause the don't have drain plugs (mine was a 73) and they are cheap stamped units that are notorious for being distorted and leaking. Replaced with a nice cast unit (with a drain plug) and a new gasket and haven't had a problem since.

I used to have a corvette with a TH350 in it and it would leak from the speedo cable and other various places that were considered "normal". It always drove me crazy though.

It could also be comming from the dipstick hole. There is a rubber O-Ring in there that it could be comming from.

I would start there. If it is too full address that first. Too full is just as bad as not enough.

need to de grease and find it for best fix info.

If it isn't too full do what sweetk30 said & get back to us.

OK it does seem overfilled. I drove it home from work waited about 25 mins and checked the trans fluid level on the dipstick. It read above the full warm temp by about 1/4 -1/3 inch. What can I do to lower it?

are you checking in park/or nutral with motor running ?

and if nutral dont get run over by the truck . block the wheels.

another fyi almost all tranny fluid dip sticks from the factory give the directions on how to check fluid level.

not tryin to be a a$$ here just a fyi.

and if you get some of the newer vehicles these days dont be alarmed if thay have the tube but no dip stick. fu*kin morons at deroit or asin country of origin. :flipoff10::flipoff13::flipoff11:

No that's cool. In case you haven't noticed yet you are talking to a complete noob here. I'll get it warm today and take a look at the fluid level then while running. Thanks for the help.

I had this same problem and it turned out to be the o-ring from the tv cable. Just to let you know.
