Seems for every problem I fix, I find one more..... so I took the truck into the shop today to fix TWO problems. One was the leaky front yoke leaking out of the splines on the NP208, the other was the leaky pinion seal on the D44.

So I go to pull the front shaft. It has one of those slip shafts with the double cardan joint. Well, at full droop on the rack, it binds. Great. The previous owner didn't clearance the little lugs so they wouldn't bind. So a few minuets with the carbide bit, done.

I pulled the yoke on the NP208, cleaned the threads, splines. I put RTV on the splines and all under the nut and gunned it back down. Filled it, great, no leaks!

I pulled the yoke on the D44, the seal was CAKED in gear oil, mud and grime. So I used a puller, pulled the seal, put the new one in, cleaned the threads and splines, put RTV on the splines and under the nut and gunned it back down. Then when cleaning up the old seal, I noticed the spring ring on the lip was on the OUTSIDE of the diff. Of all the seals I have changed, over the years, I have never seen the spring ring on the outside of the seal....... was it installed wrong last? Or did I just install it wrong placing the spring ring side towards the inside? It doesn't leak, but its $7 so if I put in in wrong I want to change it.

I found all my trans pan bolts were loose and causing a leak (I would have resealed it proper but the box is coming out soon). So I tightened those.

I also found my t-case cross member bolts were about 3 turns loose.... Lock-tite and my impact fixed that.

So far so good. I can't wait to get the driveability diagnosed next weekend!!!!
