The Tracker has a 5 speed stick with an aluminum case. Some Aisin/Toyota unit. Anyway, ever since I changed over to Synchromesh (like it's supposed to have...PO had gear oil in it :doah:) it's had a slow leak out of the fill plug. It's tight as I feel comfortable making it and not stripped. Can I teflon tape it and not suffer any issues?

Standard 3/8" drive ratchet head plug. No way to use a washer.

Yeah if it's a conical style plug ( the more you thread it in, the tighter it gets), teflon is your friend.
If it was steel I would say tighten it, but aluminum is a little more brittle and if you feel you reached the limit and it still leaks use teflon.

Teflon it is.

I'm really cautious with these. I had my first five Trackers/Suzukis in Michigan and on about half I had issues with the steel plugs not wanting to come out of the aluminum housings. Stripped a few. Did not end well.
