well, i've got some oil that shows itself when im gettin on it(back of intake manifold) but what im wondering is do i have to take the manifold off to get somemroe RVT in there, or can i just get some on my finger and dab it all over back there. im assuming it needs to come apart right??? damn it!

well number one are you sure that its not leaking from your valve covers? the other thing is the intakes dont have oil running threw them. so if its not from the valve cover gaskets then its probly from your head gaskets. so yes you do have to pull it apart. the nice thing is that the 305-350-400 sbc are so easy to take the top end apart. good luck

well, the oil can come out at the back of the intake since there's a oil valley thing down there.....am im 99% sure that's where it's coming from. i checked the oil pressure sending unit, and that sucker is nice and tight....so that's not it. it only happens when im gettin on it though.

yeah i would just rip the intake off and check it out. should only take 20-30 min to do it anyhow. apart that is another 45 to put back together. always seems to be a pain to put back together for some reason. maybe its just me. any how good luck

yeah...it's not that big of a deal....it's just not high on my list of things to do. but when i really get on it(hammer down) it becomes higher on my list since the trail of white smoke behind me reminds me of it. haha....ill get it done one of these days, just figured i'd see if dabbing some rtv would help.

how long has the manifold been on there? they can get really stuck. on my original k5 engine, the manifold had been in place for 23 years and 266K miles. i decided to let a shop remove it instead of trashing it with a bfh and prybar. it even took them a while.

lol dont think ive ever had a motor that i didnt pull apart at least every few years. always get these brite ideas to swap cams and intakes and heads and such. i need to just leave stuff alone sometimes.

yeah, im thinkin of gettin a badass manifold(edelbrock) instead of the made in china *hit one that's on there....as far as the manifold...i just installed that motor like 2months/800miles ago...if that.

Same thing happened to me... I replaced my intake and didn't put enough RTV on the back so it leaked like crazy. I tried the finger method :p: and globbered a hole bunch on the back there but it only helped a little bit.

I had to take it off and redo it and it has been leak free ever since! :D
