I have a leak in my failry new radiator. Had a piece of metal poke a hole in one of the rows. I'd like to repair it myself. Does anyone have any experiance in this? I plan on just sealing that row off at the hole. I believe they are usually soldered. Isnt this usually accomplished with a small torch and a soldering rod simular to a welding rod?

You are correct... just pinch off the tube and solder the leak closed. Sould be good to go.

I'm no expert, but is there any reason to block the tube off? If you are brazing or soldering, not sure why you'd need to close it off. Even if obstructed somewhat by the material you are using, it would still be more efficient when done, than completely blocking it off.

My opinion anyway. Poked a hole in a new radiator once, dad fixed it up, no problems since.

I'm going to go against the grain, but if you have never done radiator repair work, I would have it fixed by a shop. You said it's fairly new, so it's well worth saving, and with what a bad radiator repair job can do out in the middle of nowhere, I would just be more comfortable having it fixed right the first time.

I agree. The problem is that there is no where around here that seems to repair them anymore. I pinched it off to get home and that alone almost fixed the leak. So, we will see.
