What do I do with my leaky @ss windshield? The water leaking in fried my stereo yesterday... didn't make me too happy.

Can I get a new seal, or should I just have a professional glass shop replace the whole damn thing?

You can buy new seals from LMC. If the glass is OK, then don't replace it.

Chevy good...Ford bad

Is it leaking from a crack in the glass or around the seal?? If it's around the seal chances are that the channel that runs behind the seal has rusted and there may be some holes in there. The right way to fix it is to take the glass out, repair channel, install glass w/ new seal, but I just put a bead of clear silicone on mine around the outside of the seal for a emergency fix and it worked great

It cost me $115.xx to get a whole new windshield from safelite installed. I went the replacement seal route. Waited for the thing to get to me. Wrong part. Then broken part. Then I got it in useing a GM window seal installer. Still leaked same place and a new section too. Called safelite. Took the guy an hour to put it in and hasnt leaked for the last 2 yrs. AND what was nice was he got it in while I was working. They come to you which is nice. I spent as much trying to put it in as getting it installed. I would save your time and $$$, just get it installed. Its warrantied for life against leaks too.

Typically the seal isn't bad. Whatever they used for windshield seal material, they should have used for everything. : )

If it's leaking, remove the windshield, fix any rust/holes, paint with something good (POR15 comes to mind) then have a shop install it. Test, and if it leaks, have them seal it. Mine has no sealant I believe, but it doesn't leak anyway.
