So i was flip flopping about trading my blazer for something with more creature comforts. Then this thought crossed my mind.

Swap my axles/springs/hydro assist/ onto this truck. take my blazer and get some stock axles and sell it to make some cash back.

I am waiting to hear back from the guy if it is 4wd or not.

So the obvious issues...

my d60 is pass drop. So what do i need to do to make this thing pass drop if it is 4wd, or if it is 2wd what do i have to do. Do i need another tranny? Does the rear output come off and i can bolt a t case to it?
Is the exhaust going to be in the way?

Are the steering boxes simular on these trucks as our squarebodies? can i use and old box or can i use the box on this truck with my pitman arm?

Everything else i know, cut out ifs crap, plate up the frame in a few spots. Build some front hangars, build some rear hangars, stick springs and axle under. Rear is no brainer.

Sorry for all the questions but im not too familiar with anything but squarebodies. Iam searching and looking as we speak to try and learn some stuff.

can use pass side with some mods.

that style rims should be 4wd unlessthay have a c2500ld 6 lug 2wd. ( i had one ) so tranny / tcase problems min if you got ford axle. otherwise bolt on your adaptor and tcase and modify exaust to fit pass side drop.

steering box diffrent style bolt to frame otherwise same but yours wont fit.

rear springs = 64" eye to eye style.

front sas kit ord or diy4x and use 47 style springs from our trucks but you get 3" lift from just the sas brackets.

Would think you could find an unmolested truck of that year for that money.

I'm thinking you'd be buying someone else's failed project....

Would depend on the quality of the work that was done though....

Guy said he just got divorced and he needs to sell it. All he has done to it is shorten the rear of the frame and did the shackle flip. it is a stock truck otherwise

hm. Depends on what the work looks like on there then.

Not sure that vintage truck really gains you much in creature comforts vs. a 89-91 silverado blazer/burb.

Is it just me, or does it look like he moved the rear axle forward about a foot farther than I would have?

Whats the wheelbase look like vs. a blazer now?

X2, looks like the wheelbase is close to a Blazer.

FWIW, the sector shaft on an '88-'98 truck is the same as an earlier 2WD Chevy, the drop will need to be different (the steering box on the later trucks is MUCH lower) and the draglink needs to be shorter.

Before you start any fabrication on the front, or even buying it, make sure that the front part of the frame has no rust. The inside of the frame is known to accumulate water and rot from inside out.......

Creature comforts are for daily drivers :)
What do you need? Add aftermarket ac/heat and be happy.

While I tend to agree, I decided to build a newer truck for these very reasons. Its annoying when you get all of the drivetrain in an old truck working right just to have something annoying like the AC not working or a window motor getting weak. Call me a vajj, but I like to be cold in summertime and comfortable when I wheel. If the price is right and you have the parts to make it happen and the trucks in good shape an upgrade is usually the way to go.
