So I have this 14ff yoke and my drive shaft is off to get lengthened. I want to swap to the u bolt style to replace the strap style it came with from the factory. I am afraid I'll destroy my crush washer. Can I just swap it out?

14ff is tapered spline .

back woods / shade tree on crush sleave can be hit or miss and you swapping yoke makes it harder .

otherwise not being there good luck .

you can you just need to careful. Since you are swapping the yoke, you can't mark it. you need an inch pd torque wrench, the beam type is what I use. Use the torque wrench to check the preload before disassembly. As you get close start checking the preload for the pinion bearing and stop when you match the prior reading. Be sure to put a new seal in too.
1 thing about a 14bff is you can remove the pinion housing, pop the pinion out and swap that crush sleeve for an eliminator https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0078UBB1M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1, set it up to match the preload you measure before taking apart

Diesel vehicles pound rear differential.... Rebuilding often includes a solid crush collar...

?? Why not just copy the dimensions of the crush collar in steel & reassemble the differential...

Because I dont have the ability to do that, never heard of it, this sounds like a too in depth project for me. I wasn't planning to rebuild my diff.

the eliminator kit in my post is basically the same. Wide steel bushing, and a few shims to get the preload just right.

Also you need to remove the pinon housing to check the bearing preload, in step #1, no matter if reusing the crush sleeve or the eliminator kit.
Not a big deal, just don't damage the shim or forget to put it back. No sealer. Sealer will change the installed pinion depth.
