Let\'s play find the oil leak

Granted it's just a tiny one, but leaking engines is one of my pet peaves. There is oil leaking down onto the starter. I ran my finger along the valve cover and it came away dry. I can't see anything when I look above the starter. Anybody have any ideas before I pull the starter off to check further?

sorry hit the wrong button, probably a mouse motor, so the leak is more than likley coming from the rear intake seal, behind the distributor /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif

I'll bet if you put your hand down behind the distributor, and feel around there is oil all over the place back there where no one ever looks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

cuz mine leaked from the spot where you could put a dip stick( a 99 crate engine).it sprayed on the header above the starter. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gifto /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

it could be the dipstick, but most likely is the rear intake seal, GMs always leak.

There are a couple places back there. My first guess would be rear intake seal. If that is it when you replace the intake do not use the crappy rubber gaskets with the kit. Just lay a thick bead of black sealer along the front and rear and seal it on that way. Trust me on this. It could also be your oil pressure sending unit. Check and see if the case is leaking or see if it's leaking around the threads. Also you or someone else may have had the distributer out and forgot to replace the little paper gasket that seals it.
