I'm thinking about building a roof rack for the blazer, for extra storage/spare tire and to mount a light bar. I found a pic on Google of what I'd like to make, pretty sure it's a member on here. Post pics of y'alls roof rack builds.

colbystephens on here. I know he built a nice one for his Blazer.

Here's one I built quick out of EMT:

Never thought it was permanent, but it's been working fine over 3 years. I do like conduit, though. It's cheap and light, only rusts at the welds and the tools to bend it are cheap and/or rentable.

Look, it even holds my gear at angles:

I had a Conn Ferr roof rack on my 1990 Blazer. I snagged it from my uncle when he took it off of his Bronco back in 2000 or 2001. I really wish I had kept both but at least kept the rack so I could throw it on my Burb.

One of the biggest questions is how you will attach it to the truck...

I am not a big fan of roof top carriers, but for occasional use I could see why you would want one, just not a lot of room in a blazer,be nice to come up with a method of easily mounting or unmounting the rack, just so it is not always up there, unless of course you like the look of it

A rack easily makes/breaks access to a garage, so unless you only park outside or in a high clearance door, a way to get it on and off quickly and repeatably is important.

my k5 has never been able to pull in my garage, too high, so a rack wont hurt mine either lol:sign17:, once we figure out how to mount and build it i will post some pics

I just took a factory rack off of a mid/late 90's Tahoe and cut the bars down a little to fit the K5's hardtop then through bolted it. Looks factory and handles kayaks with no probs.

Most factory installed racks used "well nuts" to hold them to the roof-they are rubber with a threaded brass insert--some use "Nut-Serts" that are similar, only they are made of steel, and are inserted much the same way as the rubber well nuts are, using a bolt and washer to expand the steel sleeve below the roof metal...download.png
