Lets see some homemade bumper pics!

Hi Waxer, Those are excellent pics. You did a good job of documenting your build. Thanks a lot, it'll make my job easier.

Well... I got a deal on mine because I advertise for him and field many of his questions, I also took lotza pictures and put those on a site that I host.

So long story short, you would have to call him for current pricing. That, and he can totally custom a set to whatever you need. Hope that helps... kinda... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great job on the bumper and carrier! I love it.

Only consideration that I would give to the swing out side would be roadside tire changes. A left swing out would put your carrier on the traffic side of the truck. Right side swing seems would reduce the chance of your tire carrier getting ripped off by your fellow motorists.

That's true, but by having the tire behind the driver. It gives a better veiw of whats behind you. You can always look down the drivers side of the truck. If the tire is on the other side it blocks your veiw to the rear a lot more.

I love that swing out tire and jack set up. I am getting ready to build a new rear bumper for my latest blazer and that gave me some great ideas. Thanks!

Here is the front homemade bumper that was on my 75 blazer, made by a friend out of Freightliner frame rail. The rear was made by the same person out of the same material. They were very strong and resonably light. Never bent one even in a few fender benders when pushing around my disabled rigs.

Just this weekend came across a J**per selling his for cheap... a little narrow for the K5, but it musta been freaking hooge on his TJ or whatever. I wanted it 'cuz (1) it had a nice deep step to it, for me to stand on, and to keep small Hondas off my aft end, and (2) the guy wanted twenty bucks, which on a per pound basis was a steal.

It's HEAVY ... I'm thinking 4" square tube, prolly 1/4" thick, plus some diamond plate on top and ends ... and 1/4" or 5/16" thick end plates to bolt to the frame.

A little creative drilling and some grade 8 hardware, and voila, Tankie has a good step on the back now (I got tired of slipping off the factory bumper when I was hopping up to undo the hardtop or get in the back of whatever.)

Oh, and though you didn't ask, this is the front bumper I inherited ... it's like a Warn winch bumper with a brush guard welded on, plus some assorted tabs for lighting. (Me? Vision troubles? Naah.)

There's some more pix of the rear bumper
