My dad has a 2012 Harley fat boy. Way out of my price but I love it! I have been looking at the Yamaha v line and am pretty impressed with the selection. I'm looking for a cruising bike. Something I can customize over time with bolt ons. Harley's are a choice but it would have to be like a 80's and in that case I'm guessing the miles would be up there. I will be using this bike to go to work which is 2 miles and just fun stuff so it's not like I'm looking to go for a 1000 mile trip. But maybe Denver and back which is 40-60 miles which is interstate. Any suggestions?

I feel the metric bikes bring a lot more value than the HD's do. But I know little about them...the HD's mid to late 90's are a pretty good deal right now...as good as the Evo bikes got (Evolution engine, not twin cam engine yet). The transmissions are better in the mid-late 90's also. My 98 has needed regular maintenance according to the service manual, but not much out of the ordinary. Of course when you start modifying things, the snowball starts rolling.
 
I hear ya on that but I'm not talking about anything engine mod. I'm talking like seat, mirrors, fenders, forward controlles and such. My dad is a big HD fan and being such of coarse he wants me to get one but he agrees the price is way too much.

They are overpriced....but now is about the best time to get one....if/when the economy picks back up, they will probably go up again, and with new ones close to 20K and Ultras/Screamin Eagles up to 35K, 6-8K for a nice Evo seems like a bargain...there should be many out there with low mileage too, as a lot of people bought them for braggin' rights...a bunch of swipes:whistle:
 
Thats a pretty generally question. Euro-$1500 up harley used $2500-5000 it would really depend on how much I liked it and the year,shape,miles,mods. Im looking at this like this. With my ms anywere from 5-25 years I will lose movement in my legs. I want to enjoy what I can while I can.
 
Ok so the straight up star is too small. I went to colorado powersports today with the wife and got to check a few bikes out. But I still need to hit up a quite a few different places to get a feel of the diffrent bike styles by manufacter. I did like the v-classic 1100 but looked like an old mans bike. :haha:
 
my mom rides a v-star 1100. she loves it. really dependable. its been cross country, canada and vegas. the only problem is it only gets 36mpg. so you have to plan your fuel stops.
 
Try the V Star 1300. I have an 07 and love it! It handles very well on the highway and in town. It gets about 42 mpg. The only mod I done was change the handle bars and lay the licenses plate down, other than that, I wouldn't change a thing about it.
 
I'm glad to mentioned that! The v-stars have been what has been chatching my eye the most besides the road stars 1700's. Do you have a pix or vid of yours? I would love to see it!
 
Thats sexy! Highway pegs on the crash bars looks great! Love the exaust. Why did you go with the hard saddle bags? Just trying to get opions. YES! Thats what I'm going after. I got a few to check out this weekend if time permittes.
 
Well, I love being able to lock my wallet in one of the bags because I do not carry it in my pocket. The highway bar and pegs were extra and make a world of difference. You can go on YouTube and do a search and find plenty of videos where people posted with the exhaust listed.
 
I've been watching a ton of those. I have learned a ton from youtube. And alot what not to do. :doah: Here's one for ya. Now that you have the 1300 whats your opinion on the other two? 1100? and the 1700? These are the two I see the most coming up for sale in my area. 1700 too much ya think? I would think 1100 and 1300 are pretty close in torque #'s

If I could have afforded it, I would have gotten the Road Star especially one with fuel injection. That's one thing I love about the 1300, it cranks on demand and doesn't need warming up during the winter months like carb. models. I started off with an 1100 Virago and there was nothing wrong with the 1100, good engine, and tons of aftermarket parts available for the 1100 V Star and the Road Star. I'm still happy i got the 1300 though.
