lets talk brakes with a 1 ton swap

Everyone I know that has done the swap didn't mess with hooking the parking brack back up. :doah:

Are the drums on the rear axle in good condition and adjusted properly? A friend of mine had issues with his brakes lacking and adjusting the drums helped alot.

i had it up on jack stands with the wheels off the ground and i held the brake pedal and had someone try and spin the rear tires and they didn't move. id like the parking brake though cause my truck is a stick, plus it came with a parking brake so a parking brake will be put back on... my teacher at school stresses if a vehicle was built with it, it was built with it for a reason and it needs to be put back

When I had a 14b rear w/ drums in my K5, I just hooked the parking brake up like stock. The cables on the 14 bolt run just like the ones on a 10/12 bolt rear.

Sounds like you need to go to a junkyard & take it off a truck so you can see it & get all the parts.

ive got the left rear and right rear cables from the backing plates on my 14BFF and ive got the front cable hooked to the pedal still. im missing the intermediate cable

yes, your missing the intermediate cable. i just did the 1-ton swap on my k5 and i have very little brake. you need a master cylinder with more volume. i went thru this before and i just have to switch mine out yet. part # 101534 from advance.

also, tear apart the brakes on the 14 bolt and then make sure they are adjusted correctly, so they drag a little when you spin the tires, otherwise it'll take way too much fluid to operate them and it takes it away from the front.

hmm i'll have to check that. i believe my seal between the booster and the master is leaking because the fluid level in the rear resevoir drops while the fluid in the front resevoir doesn't drop at all. plus i can see after i drive the truck there is a stain on the bottom of the booster like fluid was running down it. i was also told before that if fluid got into the booster, i needed to replace the booster

ya, something is leaking, i would just change the master cylinder first. i think i have a spare booster laying around.
