I finally got my 1 tons under the ole k5. Now I plan on stretching the front axle a bit while still on leaf springs. Question is- would I be ok running 42's with just a single ram.

It works, but you'll have more power one direction vs. the other and more turns to get to full lock right vs. left (or vice versa).

Hey that'd still be better than stock steering lol. Y'all think it's be ok to run 44 boggers? Rather give the wife the 42's.

Yes, you will be fine. My brother runs a single ram on 2.5 ton rockwells running 47" LTB's with no problems at all (even running the stock chevy pump with just the West Texas Offroad "upgrade" on it). He was on 44" boggers for about 4 years before these 47's with the same steering...does just fine and is nice and smooth

I was actually just reading your build lol. Thanks tho that's reassuring! I have ord high steer arms and HD tie rod I'll be running. Didn't like the idea of running it off my diff cover.

It's weird. I just bought this cage and looks a little like yours. Any thing you'd change kay86k5? Envious of the nwf black box btw. That's got to be an awesome setup to wheel with.

Will be nice to have the steering up high, but keep an eye on your knuckles (if they are stock), as high steer on stock knuckles usually it what aids to knuckle failures. Suggest either beefing up the stock knuckles or getting aftermarket ones like Reids (if you haven't already...don't know the details of your build). And just as an FYI, I've been running my hydro assist (granted its assist and not full hydro, but still) of my cover years and never had a problem, just an FYI really

To be honest, there really isn't much I would change about my cage. It came together way better than I thought it would, especially for an idiot like me on his very first time building a cage by myself, haha. I guess the only thing that would be nice is to have my "A" pillar bars to hug just a tad closer to the dash so you have just a little bit more leg room when jumping in and out, but it's not horrible for me (I'm only 5'8" tall). And I did it that way on purpose for strength cause then I could tie into my slider tubes that go to my frame and keep it really strong...so it was a give take a little bit.

I still find it crazy that I get so many comments on my cage, when like I said, I had a base idea of the cage, but the "styling" of it I kinda made up as I went.

And the Titan Box (which is a little bit different than the normal black box...more like NWF's version of a Magnum box) is beyond awesome! Having all the gearing options without fear of breaking any type of intermediate shaft is so freaking cool.

Shouldn't be a problem. I'm running 44" boggers on 14" wide rims so the contact patch is pretty big and the scub is bad. I tried to make it work with assist and it never worked as well as I thought it should.
After talking with PSC, I went with their recommendation of a 3"double ended cyl and their pump. That was 12 years ago and I still believe it was one of my best investments.
As stated above, your going to need to invest in stronger knuckles if your running high steer.
In mu opinion.... A good working, reliable steering system for big wide tires run hard in rocks is not going to be cheap.....Spend the money once.

Well I bought a psc single ended 2.5 ram. Also bought kerts hydro assist mount, looks like it'l be sturdy enough. Im low on funds do to switching jobs and a house build. I plan on getting the Reid knuckles in time but just miss wheelin. Once it breaks I'll upgrad. The thing I'm mixed on now is where to mount the ram. With diy4x's mount, should I mount in front of tie rod or behind??? Looks like I'll clear engine cross member either way. Just trying to figure out the best steering geometry.

Running leaf springs and a double ended ram just seemed like a headache on fabing up a mount. When I went to psc they're opinion was to ditch the front leafs. Well being broker than a tooth fairy in a meth, that's not an option.

Yeah, double ended with leafs would pretty much need to stay with the steering in the stock location on the knuckles (non-high steer), then you could do it with the many double-ended ram mounts on the aftermarket. But if going single ended ram and high steer, just use kerts mount I linked above and you should be good to go

Yeap! That' the mount I bought. Love the design. The way psc says to mount the ram and what Kert told me conflict. Considering Kerts disign revolves around a single with springs I'll go that route.
