Before I used to just have a TSC box mounted to the bed with all the tools inside, spares etc. This last trip i did just basics, but probably could have packed more. Banging dunes and whoops really makes things bounce, so I want to make everything as secure as possible, but have room for coolers etc. I like the idea of smaller soft tool case with zippers that I can strap down, and or move easily. What bags have you guys used that hold up, and what size.

I use 2 CLC bags, (1) 16 incher zip up and (1) roll like linked above. (1) atlas 45 bag for ratchets and sockets. I also have a klein pouch in the center console for tire guage, skrewdriver, picks, etc.

At first glance, I thought the title said "soft stool storage"...

How about a tool bag,the kind that looks like a gym bag..
I have one that holds a lot of stuff, the only bummer is I hate having to dump out everything to find the one tool I need way at the bottom of the bag.

After seeing @onetonbb74 tool rolls on the trail I bought one myself. I went with the bucket boss because it was more affordable than the atlas45 however larger than the other cheapies on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M3QL75X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Harbor Freight soft bags thrown in a metal tool box for me. I have a soft top though and really need it locking.

Just ordered bucket boss wrap bag, combined with the other soft sided ones I have that should work really well. If this roll works out I'll order another one. I also ordered a bunch of "Jeep" roll cage accessories with storage. We shall see how this works out.

I use the CLC zipper pouches in a Sterlite tote. One for tools and one for recovery gear. They nest together and allow me to pack a bunch of stuff in the X for trips.

Totes are nice but they will get the crap kicked out of them in the dunes. Getting rid of the plastic stuff and going soft/grippy should allow it to be strapped down and actually stay down.

I started using soft sided stuff when I was traveling the Alaska Bush for work . Metal boxes punch holes in Bush Planes and plastic totes crack in below zero temps

Even now working for the railroad, the soft side bags are the better choice . I don’t have to worry about scratching walls or poking holes in seats when carrying my tools on to a passenger coach or Locomotive cab .

I can throw them on the seats of the work truck without worrying about tearing them up or listening to them rattle at every bump .

They don’t bend or break if you drop them , they are lighter for the same amount of tools

All and all it’s just better for the Mobile guy who doesn’t always work out of a service truck .

I hate, hate, HATE having _anything_ strapped down in my trucks. As far as I'm concerned, straps are for temporary, "oops, broke an axle, and don't want to leave the pieces on the trail" kind of temporary. Straps work themselves loose when whatever they're securing collapses, and stuff eventually goes flying. Often into the head of a passenger.

Everything is bolted/screwed/welded/riveted/clamped/otherwise fully secured, including my tool storage box and refrigerator. I bolted down a bunch of unistrut to the bed/cargo floor, then accessories get bolted to the unistrut. That makes it easy to move and change components without making the bed look like swiss cheese after a few years. Soft bags/rolls go inside the hardside storage box that's bolted down. I made hold down clamps for the fridge that get bolted down to the bed floor. Compressor is bolted to the floor behind the radio/electronics box.
