The NV271 is not synchronized between hi/lo, nor is the NP205. Not to say you couldn't do it with either case, but they both definitely are meant to be shifted at a stop.
. you got something weird going on some place . i have always been able to bump in/out of 4wd/2wd in high on stock 205 and in/out of front on my tripple stick doubler setup .Yeah just from 2hi -4hi. Every time I've tried it with a 205 I get ugly grindage and end up sitting a second while the internals quit spinning.
Just always liked the ease of a 208-241.
Figured any of the moderns would be similar
open diffs in my combos .3 different 205's lol. Maybe it's been the not locked up front thing.
Actually after the first 2, I haven't even tried with the 3rd now that I think about it![]()
My single wheel dodge is 11500 and its still got the stock bed on it.
Its got the 271d and people are sled pulling with these things.
The 205 is ancient history and really isnt all that great with actual loads put through them.

Heres some flipped 271f in there
Putting a planetary in front of a 205 just makes it more susceptible to splitting itself under load in 4x4.
