Let\'s talk transmissions/t cases

I'm thinking about scrapping the overdrive in the 90 and swapping in a 400/241. I would be using a th400 that had a 208 behind it origionally. Outside of changing the input shaft on the 241 and using the 4wd shifter off the 208 (I am not sure if the linkage is the same length since the th400 is shorter then a 700r4) what else needs changed? I know I will need driveshafts and vacumme to the modulator and that's no biggy but is there any other hard parts needed?
I am familiar with doing a swap like this since I put a 400/205 in my 89 but not sure on the th400/241 combo.

I think all you need is the 32 spline 241 input...the shifter linkage shouldn't be hard to figure out. 241 for the SYE availabilty?

Re: Let\'s talk transmissions/t cases

It's a 90 with VSS which I don't want to screw with. I will be going with an SYE kit and CV rear shaft. Also I can add 4 to 1 low range in the future and not have to worry about changing driveshafts.

This is the same swap i am doing. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifYou have thought of everything. The linkage should work also. Who makes 4 to 1 sets for a 241? I have seen that posted before but have not been able to get a name.

Re: Let\'s talk transmissions/t cases

You can find them at 4to1 I'm thinkin of goin to a 4l80E in mine and also keepin' the 241!! your linkage will just need to be lengthened a little wayne, not sure if there is enough thread on the factory one , but you could always cut and splice!! /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Re: Let\'s talk transmissions/t cases

I'm just going to pull the whole 400/208 from a CUCV truck so I will have the front shaft, shift linkage. Fortunately I have access to just about any part I need except the input shaft so I am tring to locate one. Having the option to go to 4 to 1 in the future is the main reason for wanting to keep the 241 and like I said I really don't want to mess with the VSS.

And as big as Fort Worth is, all someone needs to ask, when looking for you, is..."where is the lover of Bubba Ray Beadreaux?" /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
