i'm shopping around for either a 6" or 8" suspension lift and i am leanin towards skyjacker or superlift and i was wondering what tires and wheels i should get without breakin my wallet in half. if i get a 8" i was to get either 38" or 39 or 39.5" tires and 6" would be 36 or 37s. what tires would hold up the longest and be the best bang for my buck? and also what wheels would look goot on my truck? i have a midnight blue 1990 k5 i can't tell if chrome or black wheels would look better? also don't want to break my wallet. any suggestions welcome pictures of yalls trucks would be great too, thank you!:D

If you haven't already, spend some time looking through this thread for pics.

This has been covered a ton, but if you're on a budget you need to search through here and read up on lifts. Once you go over 4" lift or so you create other issues besides wanting new tires and wheels. You're going to be spending money on new drivelines and rear gearing or getting new axles. If not, you prob be dumping money into tranny rebuilds.

Best bang for buck on tires? Military surplus 37" mtrs. Haven't priced checked in a while but I had a set back when you could get good ones for $75/ea a couple years ago.

i have, they don't have information from people bout how the tires last and how they wear.

and i already have 3.90 gears and rear locker. but how long do those tires last? i'd imagine not for very long though

k5 blazer over 4" lift requires major drive line mods for drive shafts.

were did you get 3.90 gears ? ? ? not factory in our stuff at all.

reg old bias ply tsl swampers wear longest and work good.

can do 4" lift kit and 3" body like my buddy use to run and he cleared 38x12.50 tsl swampers. tiny rubbing on rear of front fenders.

otherwise if over 4" of lift on suspension plan on work to get drive shaft to run true and NOT vibrate and last a long life on u-joints.

and DONT drop the tcase it causes more problems than worth .

read / read / read a lot on here to do it right the first time. thats why your here and asking . good luck and just ask if you need more info . :thumb:

Just a little more.....almost there.

Just like the other guys said. Plan on a bunch more if you go over 4" or so. I swapped an 8" superlift off of an 86' GMC longbed I had. Then came the driveshaft vibrations, steering issues, fender trimming that I didn't plan on, etc., etc. The bigger you go, the more you should plan on fixing or improving in other areas.

I am running Parnelli Jones and they wear like steel with minimal road noise, decent off road capabilities.......but they are not made any more so the military tires are probably your best bang for the buck.

Here is how mine looks with 8" lift and 38's.

Wait, wait, wait.....how much are you willing to trim off the fenders? I run 42s with less than 8" and 38s with no lift.
That's where we need to start

True.....it's all relative. Are you looking at a set up without body modifications, or are you willing to carve and cut? In any case, I would plan on at least nipping off the lower fender corners to save whatever tires you do get.

What are your plans with the truck? Why do you want to go so high?
