Ive got a 87 chevy 1/2 ton i just reasently purchased 8 lug dana 44 and a ff 14 bolt for 300 bucks...... but i wanna fit 38's on the truck without cuttin the fenders the tires im gettin are the new bfg km2 mud terrain which is 37.8 inches tall and 14.7 inches wide the lift i found is a skyjacker 8 inch lift thats says it will clear 39x 12 tires ..... can anybody verifey this or sugest something else

I'd suggest a smaller tire if you're running 1/2 ton axles...

36" is about the max if you actually plan to wheel it. And you'll still break parts occasionally.

38" on 1/2-tons is fine for a street driven (pronounced: mall poser) truck.

If you wheel.....you're either going to have to do some cutting, or lift it to the moon to prevent rubbing (which will make it a lousy wheeler, BTW)

If it's for looks only, an 8-inch lift should be more than enough to clear 38's.

You're new to the site, but this has been covered about eleventy-billion times already. Check out some of the welcome threads, and specifically the "How will my truck look with XX" tires and XX" of lift" sticky thread. It is there specifically to help people with questions like yours... :waytogo:

yea i am wanting to clear the 38's and i do plan on wheeling it alot in the mudd and minor rock climbing.. but i dont want any rubbing.... i also have a 1 inch poly urathaine body bushing kit for it so it will be about a 9inch lift if not wat else could i do to lift it a lil more without a body lift or block lift

well best sell it now and find somthing else. wheelin and rockin will make it contact the fenders no matter what.

i know guys who did 4" and 3" body with slight trimming for 38" tires.

and 8" lift will require some good new expensive drive shafts. no way around it.

you need to go to the garage section and use the he!! out of the search button. the more you read here the better planed and less problems you will have.

good luck and welcome.

i aint to worried about the driveshafts that really aint a problem for me but i might have to do some trimming /.... but what else will i have to buy a drop pitman arm or anything else

8in to clear 38s if its a pavement pounder or mud truck. but trails and rocks... I wouldn't want more than 4" or 6" tops. I got on some bad trails in my 77 with 7" lift and 36s and that was too tippy for me.
