I have a 78 K5 and im wanting to lift it and put in a rollcage/bar. My questions are: what is a good kit for the lift? I see that rough country is what alot of ppl are going with and it seems to be a pretty complete kit but is it worth anything offroad??? My plan was to do 4 or 6"(think i might do the 6" if im going to do it) and put some 35's on there. I live in GA so there is a good bit of mud and rocks. The lift im looking at so far: .roughcountry.com/chevy_4wd_77-87_6.html As far as a rollcage goes is my best bet to take it somewhere nd tell them to figure out how to put it in or is there kits that i just havent found on the net yet? I also dont have locking hubs on my truck but have seen ppl add them. I have the np203 transfer so its full time 4 wheel drive. what would i gain from doing this? why would you do the back as well??? I know its a lot and lots off ppl b4 me have asked but any help would greatly help! Thanks

No, go tuff country EZ rides.

Rough country is really stiff.

I'd go ord lift if you can afford it. Rough country sucks and rides rough as the name implies. Lol. The ord kit uses a shackle reversal kit with longer shackle to in the rear to get better lift and articulation. Their front springs are alcan made from your specs on your specific truck so will ride much better than off the shelf kits.ezrodes Are More Affordable and ride fairly nice too. Get the normal kit if you plan on running a winch bumper or heavier than stock. 6 inch and 35s should give you a decent ride. You could go
4 inch and trim the fender a lil bit but if you get the 6 you will be able to fit bigger tires in the future.

I have a rough country 4" lift. It rides like crap.
Do a search for 203 part time kit to convert the transfer case.
Or replace it

Not so sure about this, I guess it depends on how high you go on a lift. Ive got 2" rough country springs and 5150 Bilstein shocks and I couldnt be more happier with how it rides. Its actually borderline "too" soft for anything hardcore wheeling. On the street, it rides very nice, not rough or stiff at all. I can hit speedbumps without slowing down, my combo soaks up the bumps well. I also dumped the sway bar.

I would compare mine to a 5 ton millitary truck running over a cow at 45 mph.
4" all spring lift with their house brand shocks

wow..thats not the experience Im having, oh well. I had their in-house shocks and blew em out, they replaced them but soon after got a deal on Bilsteins and couldnt be more happier. I really like my combo. I was leary going with rough country after the horror stories Ive heard, but I havent had that experience, maybe cuz I only went a 2" lift, dunno.
