After putting my 4" lift on , my parking brake cable is streched tight!!!
What can I do?

The problem is at the rear where the spring wraped cable go`s through the bracket thats rivited to the frame.I need it to be streched some how.It wont let the rear end drop any.As it sits , on the tires the cable is tight already. I`ll have to take it off to be able to drive.

The earlier trucks like yours and mine have three cables, basically. (The later trucks, 80-something up, are different.)

There's two that go from the wheel on each side up to the coupler thing you circle -- #5 there. Then there's the middle one, that goes in a half-circle, from the parking brake lever at the front middle to those couplers on the ends. You may have enough adjustment at the threaded rod attached to the lever.

If not, you should have enough slack on the back two that you can just make a longer front loop. It's aircraft cable (1/8" diameter IIRC), from your local hardware store, and the ferrule end things crimp on, either with a magic expensive tool or by crushing them in a big bench vise or a hydraulic press. Total cost should be less then ten bucks.

Alternately, you can make longer couplers from ~1" wide 1/8" flat stock bent on the ends and sliced down the middle with a grinder.

Now, if the *sheathed* part in the back is what's too short, you're in for some fab fun...

If you need to drive it to go get the parts, you can pull out those couplers (may have to take the nut off the threaded rod at the lever) -- but remember to carry a coupla lengths of 4x4 with you.

What if i pull the drum,I have to anyway I broke a lug nut off , can I just disconnect the parking brake and pull the cable out?

Spose. I *hate* drums and all their fiddly hardware ... but yeah, you can pry the lever open with a big flat blade and pop the cable out.

Still be easier to pull that one nut off the threaded rod and then the front loop is loose.

But see how the cable is trapped in the bracket? its between there and the drum I need it longer. Adjusting the cable wont do anything. I was the first thing I though about an looked at.

See #7...I have some of those in the parts box....Wife just pointed them out to me just now :doah::eek1::mad::rolleyes: now I have to go back tomorrow and look at it closer , jeeeeeze Im dumb. :haha: :doah: :haha: :doah:From where I was working on it , I couldn't see the front of that bracket , now what you said makes more sense . Damn Rough Country instructions ain't worth Sh*t!!!! really easy to install IF you already know something.
Thats gonna bug the hell out of me all night and 1/2 of tomorrow , till 4pm when I can go over there.

You can also use the emergency brake cable from a 75 van. They are longer and will give you the slack that you need.

I ended up making new tabs/brackets that the brake cables goes through along with using the van brake cables.

The rear cables for a 125 inch wheel base van is
RAYBESTOS Part # BC92465 {46" Overall Length}

and the rear cables for the 110 inch wheel base is
RAYBESTOS Part # BC92918 {47 1/4" Overall Length}

The stock cables for a Blazer are about 40 inch overall length.

I don't remember which one I got.

THANK YOU thats the idea I was looking for. I can measure for the length I guess.
