HA!!! Made ya look!!

This is about a different kind of lift...

My 4 post lift suddenly stopped going up, there is plenty of fluid in it, the ram is not leaking.. screen is clean.

It suddenly slowed down the last time I used it, and then came to a stop. It was almost like the motor shaft was slipping. I pulled the power head off, verified that the pickup tube was good, the screen clean, and had plenty of fluid available. I pulled the motor off thinking the shaft might have been slipping, but it is a splined shaft and coupler, so that's not it.

I don't feel comfortable tearing into the pump assembly, without a little help, just in case I set one of the pressure valves wrong and blow something up.

So does anyone know how the hydraulic pump operates and what I should do or should not do ?

this is the power head....it has one single 1/4" line that goes to the ram...

Basically works like a power steering pump. The lever just toggles which side the pressure goes to on the valve block for flow direction

Pump spin?

yup....acts like the fluid is bypassing internally, or the pop off valve is bypassing.

the down lever works, because when I dropped the deck it would hold if I let off the handle..

Sounds like number one is correct

Tear it apart yet?

Seriously though, what brand/model is the pump and valve?

the handle just releases pressure.... it does not direct it ( like up or down)

pressure up when the pump starts,,,,handle releases down only..

You say it lifts so high and stops? If so it could also be the cylinder. If it is bulged in middle the ram will extend till the seal lose contact, hydraulic fluid will by pass the cup.

If cylinder is by passing, it will be hotter where the py pass is occurring.

anyone know if this a two gear pump. ( like a sbc oil pump) or a gearotor pump ( like an excentric type pump )????

But if fluid is bypassing the ram,,,won't it come out of the vent on the back side of the cylinder? there is not a hose on both sides of the ram....only one side.

also, the fluid level never drops in the supply tank...

Could be a , or vane pump
even a squash plate piston pump. I'm leaning toward vane pump

Could be by pass at pump, possibly hydraulically locked if enough fluid is on the wrong side of piston. Have you added fluid to correct the level? Recently.

nope,... basically I was just lifting a truck...the deck slowed to a crawl....maybe 3 ft up. then it stopped. I dropped it back down and took the truck off. The deck would not go up after that with no load on it.

The fluid level never dropped in the tank.

It sounds like it is running with no load on the pump when I hit the up button.
