I was planning on using the 8" springs off my 84 chevy and zerorate with custom rear hangers on my 72, will this be enough to clear 37-38" tires without trimming? sorry for the total newb question but I have always loved this body style but never have dealt with it

If you plan on only street driving it.....YES
If you plan to do serious wheeling......NO

8 inch lift springs are going to be stiff, so that will help keep the truck from flexing too much....but offroad you are still going to get enough flex to get some fender munchage. The front is the most troublesome, the stock opening is really small and it has that "fang" on the leading edge that wants to hit the tire too. The turning of the tire (when flexed) requires a LOT more room than what you think you need by just looking at the truck parked with the lift and big tires installed.

My truck runs 38's with about a 4" spring lift...1" worth of longer shackle-type mods, and a 2" body lift. I needed lots of trimming and still don't have inner fenderwells up front.

Im gonna be dumping some money into this thing, and since its gonna be the dd then Im gonna have to keep it on the street only, I am not really wanting to have to trim any of the fender at all, the only offroading this one will see is the ocassional curb at the parking lot.

I agree. 8 will be fine for the street. Mine rubs with 9 inches and 38's on light wheeling but is fine for the street.
