Alright, the time has come.
The lift is here and ready to go on the truck, but my dad isn't too sure that it will be safe.
I need some help from you guys now. Please anyone with a lifted cucv or blazer post up about the following things. How does it ride, have you ever almost rolled it? I am only doing a 4 inch lift and I installed dual steering shocks, so I don't think I will have too much trouble. Also, does it raise your insurance to have a lift?
If you can answer either of these, or just provide more insight into owning a lifted truck, that would be great. I am writing a paper to my dad about why I should be allowed to lift the m1009. I think with your help it will work.
Thanks,

If you don't tell the insurance company, they will never know ;) If they ask why you didn't tell them it was lifted, tell them you bought it like that.

You just have to be responsible with it. You can roll any truck over if you're acting like an idiot. Remember it's not a race car, it's a big, wide, tall lifted truck, so respect it and drive it carefully.

Depending on what brand lift you bought, the ride might be a lot more rough than stock, or maybe just about the same. The 4" lift on my Blazer bounces me all over the place when you hit big bumps.

Also, dual steering stabilizers aren't going to make that much difference, so don't think those are going to save your life. If I were you, I would just explain to your dad that you're a responsible driver and are going to respect the size and top-heaviness of the lifted truck. Good luck man.

Just tell your dad you'll return the lift kit and instead you'll install 39" tires and cut the fenders. This will give you the 4" lift you want without actually installing a "lift kit". :D

Seriously though, a 4" lift is not much and there should be no worries as long as you don't drive it like a Porsche.

I'm more concerned about why you must convince daddy that it's ok to lift your truck. :haha:

sometimes, father knows best. this time, father knows...horror stories he's heard. yeah, i've seen lifted rigs flip. i've also seen a 98 trans am flip, then the dumb kid's parents bought him a 98 z28...which he crashed into a telephone pole. stupid parents. they were new cars, at the time, too.

drive it right, anything is safe. drive it wrong, nothing is.

vortec has a good point. Any vehicle is potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. I know kids from high school that managed to flip their Ford Escorts and Geo Metros. Show your dad that you're more responsible than that, earn his trust, and you should have no problems talking him into letting you lift it up.

My dad tried telling me how dangerous it would be, but it was too late for him to do much about it when I had me and 4 of my friends taking the thing apart and putting the lift on in the driveway one day when he came home from work :D

mine has an 8" lift with 36x12.5x15 swampers seems to feel safer to drive than when it had the stock 235's or whatever they were. Too small and narrow. I think that with a 4" lift and some 33-35'x12.5's you'll feel more stable. also my 8" BDS springs are pretty darn smooth ride on the road. i had some superlifts and they bounce all over and they were only 6".

Invite your dad to help you put it on. Tell him you really need his help. Get him involved with your project.
A 4 ' lift is not much lift and is safe. My 89 K5 with a 4 " lift is way more stable than a stock CJ5 Jeep. Or a newr jeep with a lift.
I am sure if i really tried I could roll it no problem but i would have to give it a good try.

Just tell your dad if he does not let you put it on you will trade the lift kit for a 8 ball of crank.

lol maybe for grave digger, although we've seen how many times its rolled over even with that wide stance!

get wider tires and youll be even more stable. my dad said the same thing but he couldnt get passed that i bought my truck cash and it was MINE. i dont know what your deal is with your dad but my dads pretty understanding when hes informed. get him alot of facts about how 4 inches really doenst change alot of the driving characteristics of the truck. also some of the trucks that are new these days come with a few inches from the facotry if im not mistaken. right now i have explained exactly what is going on and what could happen with my truck. he also is a huge help when it comes to my truck, when you get him involved you will be more informed as well as him.

Damn, at 4 foot being not much lift and safe what do you consider unsafe? :haha:

Yeah you guys running around with 10" and 52s are wimps. 4' and blown is the way to go.

Oh and BTW: Put a 4" lift and 33s on a stock Blazer and pull up next to a 1 ton 4x4 Dodge or Ford. You are pretty much the same height. Your dad is being a little anal about your lift.
Tell him O'l Thunder said so. I am prolly older than he is.

eh, my dad came home one day and found a big heap of a truck sitting in the driveway taht didnt run and was messed up (k30), i told him id get it out as soon as i was done, i spent 4 months restoring it and rebuilding it, finally got it out of the driveway

a month later he came home to find it back in the driveway and me under it putting in a 10" lift, with crap everywhere, loud tools and bright lights at 9:59 trying to get that last cut in

2 weeks later i got it out of the driveway

i dont think he cares, i have never been in an accident, and its funny when you know more about cars than your dad, i think hes happier that it isnt in the driveway / covering the driveway

Yeah, just talk to your dad about it and get him involved if you can. I run 4" BDS lift and 35's and it rides pretty good, and doesnt seem to be much taller then the new ford super duties and the like. hope you and your dad have fun.
