So I have recently picked up a tow rig. I have wanted a truck like this for years.

No motor no trans or t-case but the price was right (had to drive to vegas to get it) but free otherwise. Its super clean and being that I can't leave well enough alone and it is a 4 wd I must lift it.

I don't plan on anything bigger than 35s and I am going to airbag the back (using the bags I want having a lift just makes it a little easier to do).

So 2" 4" or 6" I will airbag the front someday too but for now it will remain leafs in the front. I assume the 2" will affect gas mileage the least but how much more will a 4" affect it?

I will probably run a very mild tread to help a little but who knows got to get it running first

Planned drivetrain is a carbed 454 465 to a 205 it has 4.56 gears

That statement right there leads me to think gas mileage shouldn't be real high on your list. 4 in lift won't do anyting to a rig like that. Cool truck though, put up some pictures as it progresses.

If you want good mileage I would go with a diesel. Sweet truck though man! Can't wait to see it progress

People already alluded to this, but a lift isn't going to affect the mileage of that truck much one way or the other. The 454 is pretty much going to burn fuel at its own rate either way and you're probably looking at 7-10 mpg regardless of the lift you choose.

See thats what I was hoping to hear. I think I will go 4" with it then and yes a cummins swap or some other sort of diesel will eventually end up in there but right now the funds are hardly available to get it moving under its own power.

It is a super clean truck. Plans are a 90 front clip and get some decent tires on it and get the interior done up nice. Then start saving for a deisel swap.

Anyone ever seen a Detroit diesel 2 stroke in one of these trucks?

please see post #5

then youtube it. :)

4-53T is rated at 170hp and 405lbft. better than a 6.2, although perhaps a bit shy of a 6.5T.

course...... with a shoehorn and some determination a 6v53T would be sexy in that beast.

Ah yes I remember that thread now, sometimes you just don't pay enough attention to stuff when you don't have said stuff. Now that I have said stuff (dually) I will be paying alot more attention to that kind of stuff. The diesel swap is a ways out for me though. Suspension will come first. Airbags in the rear and leafs up front for now, but I will put bags up front too.

Like I said this is just dreaming for now pulling the motor out of another truck for it Monday and then the trans and t-case on tuesday. Probably get the front clip on this next week too.

One of my main goals with this truck is to make it very comfortable. This is my dream tow rig and I will probably never part with it. My wife on the other hand wants something nice, as do I. So after its running alot of my time will be concentrated on getting it very comfortable.
