I recently picked up a 400 from a fellow member (496truck, again, thank you very much for all the help) and started to take the top end off. when i popped the intake off i got some debris in the intake valley but was able to get it all out pretty easy. my problem is i got some debris in some of the lifters. i'm kind of a worry wart and dont want to create further trouble for me, so my question is do i replace the lifters (they look like they're in excellent shape) or try and clean them out as best as humanly possible?
It may sound like a simple and dumb question but i'd rather run it by you guys and get some opinions on what to do. thanks -Josh

Pour some ATF or motor oil in a cup or bowl of some sort and let them soak. Only do a few at a time cause they are now match worn to the cam and need to stay with their respective cam lobe. They don't even have to soak for long, just dip it in and give it a brush with an old toothbrush. Make sure to vacuum out the valley where some other random debris dropped in there when I popped the intake. I blew that thing off with air for a while before removing it but some of that little stuff just was stubborn enough and stuck around till the intake was loosened up.

turns out some of the lifters were mushroomed and the cam had some scoring marks on the lobes, no big deal though. as it turns out that cam was an old crane hmv-272-2 which isnt exactly ideal for my set up so a cam change is in order, something more sedate with better off idle power. the cam bearings look mint though so i think i can get away without having them redone. other than that everythings pretty mint so far, the heads cleaned up well, internally its great and even the junked up intake looks pretty damn nice. too bad i still cant identify the pistons... at least theyre .030 over.
anyone have some decent cam suggestions? known specs as follows:
-406ci, comp cams 1.52 roller tip rockers, double roller timing chain, free el-cheap-o headers, performer intake, stock hei set up, rebuilt q-jet, sm 465, 2.73's and unknown as of now pistons presumably cast .030 overs with stock heads
