Im looking to save weight on my big ass blazer anywhere I can. I cant get rid of the rear seat, but is there anyone that has made something fit that is a bit lighter, thinner and easier to remove and folds up? Jus wondering. Ive seen the baja type lil jump seats but they dont fold up. I think one that would fold up thinner would give me more space as well. Ive thought about hitting some junkyards, but not sure what would work etc. I realize there probably isnt a BOLT on type deal, but just thinking out loud.

I used a fold & tumble middle seat out of a minivan in my blazer for a while. Turned out I never actually needed it to move. I made up some rails that bolted to the floor with attachment points to grab the OEM mount points on the seat.

what about those rear jeep seats? Aren't they light and thin enough? I might put one in my rig....

A friend of mine built a folding rear seat for his bronco. It was basically like a large lawn chair but heavier duty. It was made from tube frame and had canvas for the seat and back rest. It wasn't the MOST comfortable but it wasn't really that bad either. I wish I would have got pics of it but he sold that truck about 2 years ago. It had legs that pinned into 4 holes in the floor. When it folded up it was only about 4" thick (just think lawn chair only wide enough for 2 and only about 2" high)

Only way I can think to maybe lighten it up is something out of Aluminum. Those seats are a bit heavy, agreed, but as far as I can tell it's pretty thin wall tubing they used, not sure how much lighter you could get it and still have rigidity. I doubt GM made them any heavier than they needed to be.

What year are we talking about? If fold up style, removing the locking piece that keeps it upright allows it to be pushed a bit further forward, but doesn't help at bed-level of course.

mine is '84. I was thinking of the cheapo mini van split type seats, I think they are pretty thin all the way around. I may go junk yard shopping this weekend and see what I come up with .

I had a back seat from a TJ in my '73. Lighter than the K5 one, but also smaller (that was why I wanted it).
