Welding guru's, REPORT !!

I'm in the market for a welder and have chosen the Lincoln 180 - From what I have read on this site and so many others - It is a good choice for the beginning enthusiast.

The question is - Whats the difference(s) in these models ??

Lincoln Pro-MIG 180

Lincoln Weld-Pak 180HD

Which model is the better.....choice - Being they are priced the same and appear (at this point) to share the same features ??

Thanks for the feed back !!!

pretty sure it has to do with homo depot vs lowes, etc.. they are being made for the different stores, etc, being badged under different names for that particular store....

I got the one from home depot. It works for everything I have needed to weld so far. I bought the Rigid 50 ft. 12/3 extension cord, cut the ends off and added 220 volt plugs, so I could move the welder around in my garage.
I've even made a couple bucks welding stuff for other people.

I wasnt sure there was an actual answer, other than what Ryoken pointed out.

I did notice a difference in the pictures though - The washers (?) next to the tip are of different quantity. Aside that though.....Uh - Who knows.

I guess I'll drop an email to Lincoln to see if they know :doah:. I'd hate to find out later that a difference (if exsistant) was something I would have rather chosen.

Thanks for the input guys !

Give Ryoken a cookie

Hello Troy,

Thank you for your inquiry through our website and the opportunity to assist you with your concern. My name is Al and I am part of the Customer Service Team at the Lincoln Electric Company.

The main difference between the two welders is the retail stores that they are sold at. The Pro-Mig 180 is sold at Lowes and the Weld-Pack 180 is sold at Home Depot. Both of these welders have similar functions, outputs and options. The prices will probably vary.

Thank you for choosing Lincoln Electric for your welding needs. We appreciate your continued business so please contact us if you have additional questions.

And for the record the difference between a lowes/home depot unit besides circuit integrity, is that the heat is in 4 stages from a chain store wheras if you pick up a unit thats probably $300 more from a welding supply it will have a fully analog heat dial, which is nice....
