I've done the swap onto a car. I know, not the same, but wasn't too bad. I cut off the shroud and just kept the fan motor and fan. I bent some flat steel and welded up reinforcements to fit the contour of the factory shroud. I bolted the the brackets to the 3 holes on the motor, and drilled holes and bolted the other ends of the brackets into the factory shroud. It fits great and works darn good.
I use a stock thermostat - 192, but have tried a 180 and it worked with that too, but went back to 195 to ensure I made it into closed loop. Make sure the rest of the cooling system is up to the task too, and the charging system too. I would post pictures, but I can not do them. If interested, I can e-mail them to you.
no you can post pics, you just have to have them hosted somewhere...i use photobucket. then when you reply the light yellow button that looks like a moutain on it w/a small square in upper right corner, you click it and paste the photo http in the space.
see my diy4x shackle flips patiently waiting their turn
yes, go to photobucket.com,..sign up(its free), once you have an account there you click upload and it will let you find pictures on your computer and upload it to the site, you can do them 1 at a time or use the ''bulk uploader'' and put alot of pics on photobucket at once. after you have them on photobucket, use the 2nd line under the pic and copy that and paste it in the space i was talking about on this site
I will work on them tonight - when I go to work - working for nothing - while the wife and kids are going to Monster Jam for FREE! Sorry, I am in a little bit of a bad mood!
Okay, I think I have this working right, if not sorry...

And looking from the driver's side.
I know this is a Ford, but the idea is generally the same. If you are running a small block, you might need a shallower fan shroud to keep the motor from the water pump pulley. I bolted eigth inch flat bar to the 3 holes and bent/welded them to the contour of the shroud. The top 2 pieces bolt to a hole each in the motor and the shroud, and the bottom bar bolts to the 1 hole in the motor, runs horizontal, and bolts to 2 places in the shroud. This has worked great and I use the high speed setting for it.
I have not put one in my blazer yet but I can tell you that it would not have any problems cooling a well warmed over v8 in middle of summer with the AC cranked. The only way you are moving more air than a mark VIII fan is with full mechanical setup.
For the controller I would recommend a spal fan controller (part# fan-pwm). it uses a soft start system that will save your electrical system. The start current for these fans is right about 100 Amps and run current is almost 40 amps. Make sure the charging system is up to snuff.
