Former MD State Highway vehicle, assigned to "Bill" at some point. His name is stenciled on the driver door.

Typical rust belt weight reduction mods, not horrible for local standards. Folks have probably scrapped better cabs.

Has a reman 350, installed at some point. Had a th350, gave that away to return a favor.

No money to invest and no real plan yet. Just starting a virtual build either for motivation or to keep track of inactivity, whatever the case may be.

Part of me wants a slightly lowered 2wd truck similar to picture bellow. I already have a couple 4wd trucks I don't drive, might as well add a 2wd one. But on the other hand I have more parts to lift, 1ton and 4wd than I do to make it low... time will tell.

Slightly lifted 4x4 would be the path of least resistance. Especially if I stay conservative with 4” lift and 37s.

Couple of years ago I spent some time on a 4wd frame, rust was removed or converted chemically, primed and painted with a couple coats rustoleum. Has a shackle flip from diy4x and some 4” springs.

Frame lost those axles to the sub project, but kept the suspension bits and there’s a drw 60 and d70hd under it now. It’s been holding up a sub body for a year or so. Has moss on it, but paint is in good shape.

If that route is taken, there’s a 465/205 for it. Downside there, from what I’ve read is that they’re both 10 spline and the one is synchronized. So no twin sticks. Mechanical pedal setup for now, but that could possibly be upgraded.

I know right. Couldn’t step in to the deep end like that, figured it could start with a static 2/3 drop. Still let me use it for truck stuff.

Coworker has something bagged he can lay out, seems that low and slow is ok too.

Remember reading a post that suggested building for where you wheel, for me that’s pavement. Gotta drive a minute to get to dirt or rocks.

Some progress, removed items that were stored inside the cab and swept it out. Next time the pressure washer is out I’ll hit it.

Rot isn't horrible, mostly on the front pans. Little bit of surface rust in back.

Square version of this? Was for sale locally.

In all seriousness both those ideas sound good, but I don’t have the skills to pull either of those two off. Y’all will see when I get to the floors.

Wish I did, because I’d be talking about this without the cowl hood.

But no, I’m realistic. It is what it is. Some patches and either up or down and eventually some sort of oil burner.

The option of making this a 4x4 with parts on hand left after a visit from muddybuddy, bittersweet but at least there are some funds for this now. Looking forward to following along to his project.

Lowered 2wd it is and as long as that is happening I should at least try and make her scoot. With that in mind, this was gotten.

Now to clean her up, inform myself and put together a parts list to place an order.

Where’s the build thread :pimp1: looking forward to following along! I’ll have some parts for you to help fix some of the rust

Glacially slow, thought I was going to pick a motor and trans and stab it in.

But, I purchased the motor and then MAW settled in. Heads are off to a machine shop (2 weeks out) and I’m in the process of taking the bottom end apart to send that out as well. That plus harness and tune will eat the budget.

Picking away at the body/frame will give me time to work on a transmission.

…I’ll have some parts for you to help fix some of the rust

Awesome, nothing like genuine General metal! I’d be happy to trade, thank you.

Recently picked up a 110v welder off marketplace thinking about this mess.

I thought you said some kind of oil burner, that is not going to do well burning oil

Hello Isaam, thank you for the bump and for fact checking my thread.

And you’re right, in July ‘23 my plan was:

But no, I’m realistic. It is what it is. Some patches and either up or down and eventually some sort of oil burner…

Then August ‘24:

The option of making this a 4x4 with parts on hand left… ……bittersweet but at least there are some funds for this now…
…Lowered 2wd it is and as long as that is happening I should at least try and make her scoot. ….

Oil burning options on hand include a fresh 4bd1t and a couple 6.2s, none of which will make a CC scoot.

So, hang tight for my update next year where I post my intention of making it an EV :flipoff11:.

In the meantime, pic. this am of what has been done. Played the wire wheel, phosphoric acid, prime and paint game with the back half of the frame and underside of the bed.

IMG_0646.jpeg

Took the leaf pack apart, wire wheel/flap disc to bare metal then ez glide paint.

Disclaimer: I reserve the right to change my mind/ build direction at any instance in regards to this build.

I didn’t paint the hangers thinking they’d be swapped out when I did an axle flip and c notch, but then Chris went and posted his +05 SD axle kit... How can a guy not do that? So, Im saving my pennies. We’ll see how far I get.

Lol i figured it would be a matter of time before you came back to 4wd on LC. Either way will be cool, and scoot.

You can always wait to finalize lift/lower mind battle until after you finish body patches, motor built etc.

The SD front axle swap is slick, ive talked myself into it, and Pat’s drooling over the chevy 60, so it’ll go to a good home. Having driver drop solves one of the roadblocks i have run into while planning out my build
