What is that little door thing under the dash on the passenger side kick panel?

I'm guessing its HVAC related. I had to remove it to wire speakers into the door panels, and not sure when its supposted to open/close to test it.

THanks!

It takes fresh air from outside to inside. In theory if you are in Max AC it should be shut. If in Def or AC or Vent it should be open. Basically it should be open when in any position other than MAX and maybe heat.

Do not quote me on it but that is my understanding.

Mine is vacuum operated also. I just have the one vacuum line going to it so there is no real testing for it.

I thought it opened so that it takes the cabin air instead of the outside air, like in MAX mode.

hm, ok. Mine seems to not be doing anything. Would that make my defroster work really crappy?

It could if it is just taking outside air and blowing it on the windshield. Was the vacuum line hooked up to it? Mine falls off every once in a while and it stops working until I hook it back up. I am gonna make mine manual when I gut my AC and heat.

The line is hooked up to the little actuator on the door....but i have no idea where the other end goes.

It goes to the back side of your AC control panel. If you pull it out there is a vacuum "center". The lever on the ac panel ports vacuum to various places depending on the switch position and causes doors to move (the vent door and the heater core door).

I forget which way is "on" and which way is "off" for that actuator, but with the engine off, the actuator is off. Then with the engine running, if you move the selector to "MAX", the door should move. Another likely problem is that the vacuum line to your HVAC control panel is broken or disconnected under the hood. This would prevent the defrosters from ever blowing more than a trickle. Is this the problem you are having?

The defrosters seem to be blowing, and stuff moves in the dash when i move teh selector, so i don't think that is the problem. I'm gonna drive it today and i'll see whats going on.
