Little Rust Holes

I've got an '84 Blazer that I'm about to do the inside of with herculiner. I've got all of the seats out and the old carpet pulled up and scraped off, etc. It's almost ready to roll.

The problem is that in the passenger floor board there are about 3 separate spots, none larger than a nickel, of rust. My father in law has a welder, but I don't believe he knows how to use it and I definitely don't know how to weld, so basically welding is out. I guess little sheet metal patches with adhesive would work, but is there a way to just fill these in with some Bondo or caulk or some type of squirt stuff?

Thanks!

Sorry - being dumb. Didn't read enough to find POR 15. I think it would probably be perfect for this application.

Think about it.

If the holes are all the way thru POR 15 will not fill them. That stuff is really a special paint. You have to weld them, or patch them over with sheet metal and adhesives. There is some good adhesives out there. I was heading that way until I recently bought a mig welder and did some practice. I'm okay, still a novice but I like the results better than adhesives. It's really up to you.

How big is the welder your father in law owns??

If it's a hobby welder, pick up a sheet of 22 gauge sheet steal, and practise around on it with some flux-core wire. You'll get the hang of it enough to do little patches.

Plus that way you did, and you'll know if you suck or rock with a welder. It's like 20 bucks to get a decent sized sheet that you could practise on for hours...

Good point. I think I'll do this. However, since the rust holes are very small I'm just going to bondo them for now. The truck's made it for this many years with no other rust so perhaps it'll make it a few more until I decide to cut and weld the whole floor section.

Plus, I believe that some type of a spill or something caused the rust in the pass. floor board. You can tell that some type of liquid or something had just been sitting on the interior floor board there. Since I'm going with no carpet it shouldn't be a problem.
