I just changed the vent window weatherstrip from LMC on the 91 and it fits horrible! The frame to door fits well but there is a large gap around the top vent window, from the rivet up?!?!? Its worse that the old dry cracked rubber that was there! Ughh now what?? i tried sorta moving it around, pulling it down and out of the frame but then it doesnt seal around the doors!!
Im very disappointed beacsue i bought all new stripping for this build,, and im worried the rest will fit poorly. i doubt ill even try to change the pass. side vent.

Anyone had similar issues with LMC stuff, is Classic better??

I have bought a lot of stuff from lmc with never a problem BUT I have read soo many stories about their bad rubber, especially the removeable roof gasket, that i have held off buying one. on my 69 camaro all the moldings were top notch from classic but who knows?

i had problems with their rubber for the back window on the topper, the little metal clips wouldnt stay connected.

bought a bunch of other stuff from them, some good some bad, their chrome mirrors fold in with the wind and rust, same with the grille i bought, and the rear window crank handle snapped off within a year of having it.

i had the same problem with my vent window seals. also have a problem with the other window seals.
at less than 2 years old, they have already lost the "fuzzy" felt part.
very poor quality of seals...i should have returned them immediately when i saw "made in Taiwan" on them

Keep in mind that there are 2 different wing windows and the shape and size is different so maybe you ordered for the wrong year OR you ordered for the year of your rig but a previous owner changed the doors from a different year.

is there a way to tell by looking at them?

I have no idea to tell you the truth. I haven't had both out at the same time to do a side by side comparison.

Classic Parts is actually showing 3 different year splits,

1973-1980
1981-1985 (with 2 piece weatherstripping)
1985-1991 (with 1 piece weatherstripping)

LMC only provides a 1 piece for 81-91...that could be the problem

Windows different shape or size, My 74 is the same size as this 91, Im talking the glass and frame, i have them both out, well the pivot is broken off of both so i can lay them on top of each other and they are the same. The replacement is out of a 89 Suburban and best as i can tell is indentical.
Other than 2 holes in the door frame and a slightly different look right at the top inside the door, im not sure what is different. 74 track and frame seems to be the same thickness too.

mine just seemed to be too small in size to fit properly...it had to be stretched to fit and that is not good, because it just shrinks back after installing.
i may replace them again with seals from another company...someone suggested Soff Seal...

I bought all the hard top seals from Classic Parts and they are great.

For all the door stuff I used GMSPO. Those were like 10 years ago and they still look perfect.

I think half of LMC's stuff is good and the other half is like JC Whitney. I just don't know how to tell the difference before ordering.

Call LMC and tell them you are unhappy. I have had good luck with their customer service. I got all their new chrome grille trim, and none of it fit worth a damn. I made it work because I didn't know of anywhere else to get it. I called and told them how unhappy I was and they said they would either take it back or give me a $20 gift certificate. I took the gift certificate since I already had it all installed/test fitted.

Another was I have their clear side markers and one of them lost all the chrome reflector stuff inside, and I called and told them. I was out of the 6 month warranty or whatever, but they still sent me a new set for free.

Just my experience

I'm working on my vent windows and after attempting the Driver's side.... I will NOT be attempting the passenger side.

Its the top of the vent window that is the worst... Can't seem to get it to fit as snug as it is supposed to.

So I grabbed another vent window out of my parts truck (which is in worse condition than the one I had ) and threw that in for now and installed the window channel kit.

Now the window doesn't roll up as smooth as it used to

When my power window harness and new motor is done, I still think its going to have trouple rolling that window up because its so TIGHT

dunno what to do yet... I was thinking that I may take the vent windows in to a glass shop to see what they can do. And to get the windows to roll up nicer, I'm not sure what I can do about that.

Ive heard nothing but bad about LMC rubber parts, and mixed reviews on sheetmetal. I did however get a really good product with shock mounts for my ford.

I try to get parts elsewhere if possible though.

I might just try to put the old vent weatherstrip back on. It actually doesn't look too bad now that I have cleaned it up. Maybe I'll get my money back from LMC.

The windo is very tight going up still too though. I'm hoping it will loosen up over time.

I got the window flocking and rubber seals from JCwhitney I think it was. Good parts.

I dont know if its them or just the GM stuff is junk from the factory.

I did my rear window and had a similiar issue. Ordered all new guts and new upper seals. New motor new cable. With both upper seals in place the motor didn't have enough power to roll the window up. It was pathetic, my cordless drill with a clutch set to a very low setting could roll the window up and down with no problem.

To fix it I just ripped the inner seal off and just left it that way. It's a GM truck I dont think parts are supposed to line up and fit :(

You know, I was scheming once to actually mount a cordless drill inside the tailgate instead of the stock style motor. They work much better, which is possibly a safety issue. However, if a bear is trying to climb in I think the stock motor is less safe. The problem is that you need relays to turn the dual wire control signal into a polarity swap. But that's easier to overcome than the mounting/packaging.

Maybe somebody here has a junk door they can take the window seal from.

I used classic parts for my doors and vent windows they fit just fine.Doors had the weatherstripping done 3 years ago and still holding up well.vent rubber install well also with no fitment issues. The only thing I would not use is the tool and rivet kit,The rivets work but the tool wore the point flat fast(china steel) and would not roll the end of the rivet it just smashed it down.

I had just got some weatherstripping for my hard top that I am redoing from here the product looks good so far. I have a thread in the body shop forum body work thread post 18 that I will be putting up pics I hope by weeks end all in it final glory :thumb:
