Just wanted to share the good experience after installing the LMC custom headlights and wiring harness upgrade on my '85. I had always been a little bit disappointed in the light output, and adjusting the aim only somewhat improved matters. Changing them was as simple as removing the sealed beam units and plugging everything in. The upgrade harness has two relays, twin grounds, and everything is clearly labled and seems to be good quality The length is also just about perfect . I also like that I can use modern halogen bulbs.

The housings look a lot better than the old lamps, but not out of place on an old truck, and after adjusting the light was whiter, significantly brighter, and shined farther. Overall I'm happy. Not the cheapest modification (around 170 for 4 units and the harness) but definitely safer, and brings better lighting without taxing the old factory harness.

Good to know. I've been thinking of just doing the harness upgrade on both my trucks, and at $30, they seem like a good deal. I've seen them in all of LMC's catalogs, so I'm assuming they're all the same units for Chevy, Ford and Dodge.

I know I can probably do the same thing with a few Bosch relays and some wire, but I'm lazy...

I'll put up some after photos after I get home from work.

You probably could build the harness yourself, but after you get the two relays, wiring, and connectors to fit the headlight harness and bulbs, in my mind you're over $30 worth of combined parts and effort.

I had a similar experience with mine. I'm not a wiring guru and for $30 it was an easy install.

I was dumb and used some other company's lights. That was a disappointment. The harness was good though.

Sorry for the delay, I did say I would put up some pictures, but I ended up having to go out of town for a week.

The first picture is the only one I have of the old headlights. The camera isn't the best, but the real-world difference is like night and day (pun intended).
