i need to pull my front axle shafts and when i'm in there i want to add a locker, i plan to do a 3/4 ton swap soon and way down the road a d60 up front, so i don't want to put a locker in the rear 10 bolt.

which one would you choose, a lock right or a powertrax? also what's the difference? they look pretty close to the same but it says one's a locker and ones a limited slip

depending on when your going 1ton, i would just lincoln lock it(weld it) no sense in putting money into it!!!! save the mulah for the 60. you can polish and dress up a turd, but it's still a turd. just my opinion.

if your set on giong 3/4 ton...then i'd go with the lockright. i've had good luck with those in the past for sure.

They are both basically the same thing, just the Powertrax is more complex so it operates smoother. So a Powertrax is just a Lock-right plus "A precise synchronization mechanism eliminates the ratcheting sounds typical of other locking differentials." That quote was pasted directly from their website.

For the front, I would probably just use the Lock-right since I believe it's cheaper.

it will be a LONG time before i go 1 ton, but i can find a 14ff for cheap. i thought about welding it up but then i'd have to do like a 8 point turn on a trail (i mainly go riding with jeeps so it's already tight) and i've heard horror stories about the welds giving out. the 10 bolt will be in the front for awhile though.

it's $100 + cheaper i believe.

well i say it'll be awhile before i go 1 ton but if i stumble across a dana 60 or if someone has one that they would like to donate to me, i'll go 1 ton sooner

hmmm.....hydro assist/crossover will aleviate alot of the turning problems. alot, but not all. damn, it just keeps addin up you know. good luck man!!

yep, and that's more $$$ i have to add to the 10 bolts

yeah, BUT most of it will work on the 60..exerything but the arm on the axle....i dunno.....im not trying to talk u out of it, i've just tried to wheel 10bolts, and had no luck....so that's where im coming from. many people have wheeled them and had good luck too. either way you go man...good luck!!!

You can also sell it later for 100 loss to an up and comer who is where you were , so its just like "renting" a locker .

As long as you dont have to lock it on the street to get around in the snow you will prolly be fine with a lockrite. I have ran both a lockrite and the powertrax No slip in the front 10B. The Lockrite is a very harsh locker in the front. It pops and bangs a lot. WaY more than if used in the rear. But they are cheap and they do work.
The powertrax No Slip is a great locker for the front. It is quiet and does not pop, bang, or Jerk. It is a true locker Not a Limited slip.. Works good in a DD where you need 4x4 on the street.
It is what I am running in the front now. I really like it a lot. I am locked front and rear and wheel my 10B fairly hard and have not broke one yet. But I have upgraded 30 spline stuff and am easy on the throttle. I have owned my K5 for almost 10 years. I seriously doubt that I would ever go 1 ton.

well down in south mississippi i never see any snow and the only time 4x4 is engaged is when i'm offraod, so the bangs and pops won't really bother me

The lockrite should work fine for you. Just be aware if you go over 35" tires locked in the front with 10B you proly will see some breakage and faster wear on the Hubs, U joints and axles. M ake sure you have good hubs, Warn Preimiums or Super Winch would be best.. I like SWs but that is just my personal preference.
Also Lockrites have their limitations and 35" is about it.
So take it easy on the skinny pedal and check things out often.

Oh BTW you can usually pick up lockrites cheap on Ebay.

What price are you getting for a lock-right? I want a locker for the rear.

I run a lockrite in my front 10B and yes it makes noises but works well. It is not nice on the street in 4wd, pulls to one side or the other while on the throttle. I may try a powertrax in the d60 when i stuff it in.

I have a Lockright in my front 10 bolt and a Powertrax in the rear 12 bolt. I am running Yukon 4340 shafts front and rear. I am running 33's. I ran the Lockright on a trail a couple of months back and I really like it.

I won't be running larger tires for a while, if at all.

I just installed my Powertrax last weekend along with a disc brake setup. Brakes need a little work still, but I like the locker.

I went with the Powertrax because of some user reviews at different sites. They are a little more $$$.
