I Just Bought A 89 Burban How Can I Tell If The Coverter Is Locking Up Sorry For The Dumb Question But I Don't Know Auto Trannies To Well

hook up a tach, and watch for 4 rpm drops as it shifts gears. you'll have one at the 1-2, the 2-3, the 3-4, and one when the converter locks in 4th

It feels kinda like it's upshifting 1/2 gear..... it's only a couple hundred RPM drop. In my Dodge it's very noticable. It also should only lock up in D and OD.

Drive it down the road. Let it get into od. Then while giving it enough gas to keep going put the brakes on a little with your other foot. You should be able to hear the rpm's go up a little when the converter unlocks. Let off the brake ( still giving it some gas) and the rpm's will drop when the converter locks up.
