what are your guys opinions on a front d44 with a spool in it? truck about 50/50 street off road. It obviously got lockouts, so it should be just fine right? I have heard bad things on other websites about spools in front d44's....thanks
not to highjack your thread or anything but did gm 12 bolts come govlocked or factory posi in them. i have a 12bolt always locking posi and i was just wondering if it was after market
Its no rockcrawler or nothin. 97 half ton converted straight axle 8lug 44. 14bolt in back. Mostly usin 4x in snow and mud--occasional truck pulls. What about mini spools? I do have 4.10 gears and the new HT383E engine with intake tune headers and a hypertec pushin about 400hp and 450ft lbs. only running 35"s. Still thinkin they would be a bad idea?? I have welded many of axles for mud trucks but i want something i can mabey take out if ever need be
ah yes they do have limited slip, its called "GM time bomb" Its made by eaton and has two shafts with counter weights that swing out on them. They get the nickname from one tire in dirt one tire on pave==BOOM! but it is similar to govlock its not full posi---well not that i have seen
I have had them where some take a bit to lock and others are instant--If you use them how they were ment to be used by 80% of the general public and only needing it in the winter when the roads are snowy they will last the life of the vehicle, start addin tires and other things like that--its a tickin time bomb ha
Spooled 44??? It's only a matter of time before it goes boom...
Make sure you have extra shafts and the tools to swap them out... They always seem to go boom at the worst possible time... You come to a hard spot on the trail and it takes everything your truck has to get threw and something lets go... If you were having problems getting threw that spot in the first place, you're not making it threw with a blowed up 44...
I ran a true trac in a 44 for years with no problems...
