so i have to pull my front end apart to put gears in it...and i was figuring that if ive got it all apart that it would make sense to put a locker in it at the same time...

answer poll and post opinions.

oh yeah its an dd k5 truck on 33a/ts that gets played with maybe once a month. its a 10bolt.

:waytogo: This is a great question whom I'm sure may of us would like to hear the experts opinions. Those with knowledge please post.

agreed, i know that a limited slip (truetrac) would allow the LEAST breakage bc it gives, and it possibly would allow the most turning radius.

while at the other end is teh spool...i just needed another option.

i have a lockright in the rear and i love how it acts.

A locker in the front will be very hard on your knuckles, shafts, and u-joints. Expect to start breaking things.

Having said that, don't drop the money on a detroit and don't get a spool. The detroit is overkill (you won't break the 10 bolt carrier before you break shafts etc.) and you won't ever turn with the spool.

Get one of the lunchbox lockers :waytogo:

Get on

well the last axles i had were 10 bolts before i switched to my 14b ff and dana 60 combo and in my front axle (10 bolt )i had a detroit truetrac and a detroit locker in the rear never once had a problem with front breaking axles kept breaking axle shafts in rear only had 28 splines front and rear but the trutrac is a oversized posi unit which worked awesome for me and i was running 35 " bfg mud terrains

Having had both a locker and an air locker in the front of a Jeep I wouldn't have anything but an air locker. They are great. You can leave the hubs locked and switch them on and off as the need arises.

I haven't check but you could also do an OX locker if they are available. Cable operated I am sure would work well.

i didnt include arb because its out of question...700+ for something that will barely see anyuse....plus my high level of income:rolleyes: :haha: (senior in hs)

i forgot aboot ox though...illl check em out!

I have a lock right in my front 10 bolt and I like it. I never hear it or nothing and it is one of the cheapest locker out there.

how about an auburn limited slip.....from what i understand if a front wheel comes off the ground it sends power to the tire with traction

is this correct....if not, which locker does this....

plus if u run a limited slip it should slip before breaking an axle or u-joint

If you have a tire off the ground, a limited slip will be all but worthless. All of them, regardless of who makes them.

A locker is harder on parts. If you don't have traction you don't break parts.

I have a Powertrax No Slip locker in the front. Before that I had a lockrite. Both work good. Really havent broke anything other than the pins in the lockrite. U joints wear faster tho.
I like the No Slip better than the Lockrite. Its quieter and is not as harsh as the lockrite was. I am running 10Bs and 33" tires. Locked front and rear.

I also run the No-Slip up front in my 10 bolt. It's a well mannered locker.

if you want cheap, get a lockrite. with any other, you will have to get the gear pattern reset which will cost more. just take it easy on the skinny pedal with the locker, as you won't need it as much with true 4wd.

I did not have to get my gear pattern reset. It was easy and simple to install.

as i said, with any other locker/ limited slip you have to get your pattern reset. i have a lockrite in my d60, so i know all about those.

Mine is welded but it is a 60 and I could not turn until I went with Hydro-Assist:D . For a 10 bolt I would go with a lockright and for a 60 I would go with Detroit.

Yep, I love both of my detroits but I wouldn't put that much money into a 10 bolt.

:hi-jack:
Is a Dana44 about the same as a 10 bolt? Would these lockers/LS apply to the D44?
