OK guys I'm going to re-gear. I'm running 35's,and while I was at it I was thinking about a rear locker! I dont do alot of off roading but I hate just backing my boat down into storage or getting one wheel in the grass and having to put it in four wheel drive. My F250 limited slip SUCKS! I'm not really wanting an ARB. Here is what the shop here is charging me... What do you guys think. Loc-rite in the front Detroit in the rear. Gears new bearings, seals G2 ring and R&P and so on. Its a 12 bolt. Total= $2666.00
Is that a good deal? I have no idea, I like the guy and he does great work. Will I really tell a big difference on the street with this rear locker? Tire wear, wet roads? Sorry for alot of these questions I just have no clue, this will be my first locker!! I don't care about the chirp!:D

Thanks for the help!

Four wheel parts, right? Their genuine gears are the absolute worst gears you could buy. They are WAY overpriced on basically everything too.

What gear ratio are you going with?

As a comparison, here is the site of my favorite vendor on here. For everything you listed runs about $1350 including new bearings, seals, ring and pinion, detroit in the rear and lock-rite in the front. Most shops charge $2-300 per axle to setup a ring and pinion and install a locker, WAY cheaper than 4WP. They happen to be located not too far from you though I'm not sure if they install that stuff or not, I bet they do, give them a call.

You may also want to make absolutely positive that you're willing to spend that much money on these axles. If you start breaking them and decide to upgrade, you would be lucky to get 20% of your investment back out.

I went that route initially, sheared the bearing journal off of the 12 bolt detroit in the rear and stripped the ring and pinion teeth after swapping the 383 in (truck was on 33's at the time). Luckily it was still under warranty, just got my money back and went to bigger axles.

Generally, the detroit will be locked when you're on the gas and unlocked when you're not. I really didn't mind it on the street at all. The front locker, on the other hand, will be a handfull on the trail and will be really hard on your steering and frame without hydro assist.

Thanks for the reply! Its not four wheel parts, but thanks for the information. Its a locial guy. He has a good rep...I just know nothing about this so I dont want to get hosed.

I would tell you I have stupid money in my k10s axles. I have less in the whole k30. 3/4 tons sell around here for 500 or less with wore out engines.

Honestly , that is way to much to pay. I would get a second price.
Atleast price all the parts yourself and see the kind of profit they are making. I mean think about $2700 just for gears and lockers, wow.
And like mentioned in the last reply, if you ever decide to go with 1tons, you will lose almost 75 % of the $2700.

IMO.

There is a guy in Md with a 10 bolt front and 12 bolt rear for sale and the rear has a Detroit and the front is open. I believe they have 4.10's in them too. They can be bought pretty cheap since nobody is interested in them. They are out of a 81 K5. Shoot me your email addy and I will see if I can put you in touch with him if you're interested.
