soon i will be picking up a 10bolt 3/4 ton front and 14ff rear. i know its not a dana 60 but i dont have alot of money. my question is when i get the 10 bolt can i put a spool in the front or a locker or what. it will be a second car and will only drive it once a week on the street the rest will be trail. im going to get a locker for the rear but i dont know what to do for the front. thanks everybody, this forum rules

Spools in the front suck on the trail without hydro assit. I had one in my 10 bolt front with stock steering and 36 inch tires, and I had terrible steering. Autolockers in the front still hurt steering but not nearly as much as a spool or welded. Definately go with a lockrite over a minispool.

if u plan on getting a D60 soon or in the future (not 3 years from now) i would weld it. i know it will suck to turn in 4wd,but it will be good in the mud, it wouldnt cost u anything. plus...its only a 10b, if u blow it up, o well.:D

another one here voting for a Loc-Rite, i did the welded up front carrier for 3 trips, i absolutely hayed it, couldn't steer worth a crap, and honestly i believe it wore out some steering components as ever since that, i have had a very soggy steering problem i cannot locate.

Not a cracked frame, replaced ball joints, TRE's are all still tight, so i am leaning to a worn out steering gear box now from the added stress of trying to turn with locked axles.

I replaced it with a Loc-Rite, and love it, there are still times when it gets alittle tough to steer, but for the most part, just keep the truck in 2wd so no torque is applied to that front driveshaft, therfore doesn't lock the locker in until you need it...

just what i do anyways.:D
