Well I have a 1978 Blazer its got a 350, th350, 203, 44, 12 bolt 4.56 gears gov-bomb rear

anyway this truck has a problem getting traction, so i am kinda lost.
I figured eithier i could get a more agressive tire or I could add a real locker instead of that gov-loc.
what you guys think?

sugestions on lockers?

by the way this is my daily driver and its only gonna be seeing mild wheelin, mostly mud, but i am trying to build a capible truck

Pics of the truck
old pic but you can kinda see the tires

If you are having trouble with traction in the rear then its possible the gov-lok isn't working correctly.

IMO your situation is the perfect one for a gov-lok. Tires small enough to *probably* not kill it, it will lock up when you spin your tires in the mud, its free and it performs like open on the street.

Well the one tire when it slips gets 1 revolution in before the other side locks .

we will see i got a heavy right foot:D lol

Sure it's got 4.56 gears?

I say ditch the Gov Lock and get a Powertrax NoSlip. Great lunchbox locker that you can install yourself. Good manors, decent price, and always worked great in my Ranger's 8.8".
Not sure if they make one for your 12 bolt's limited slip carrier.

Lunchbox lockers can only go in open carriers.

Nice score on the gears.

Some of the lunchboxes are made for limited slip carriers. Depends on the axles and their carriers.

Well, that means he's stuck with the Grenade Lock or having the whole diff pulled apart to put a locker in no matter what he chooses.

Seeing as how he's got no OD, 4.56's, and 33's the first thing I'd want to do with that combo is step up to at least 35's...death to the Grenade Lock.

I might be able to get a open carrier for a 12bolt really cheap

but that invose shims and all that I really dont know much about axels I can change a 3rd member of a 9 inch thats it

You got what, 4" of lift?

For the locker/gears - as the old saying goes, if you have to ask, you should let a professional do it.
Not a dig, I let the professionals do that.

If you plan on staying with 33" tires just keep the gov lock. It is a locker and you wont gain much buy spending a bunch of money on a detroit. & Or setting up an open carrier just to put a lockrite in. It sounds like your gov lock is working rite if the tire goes only 1/2 to 1 revolution before it locks up. Just be careful with those full throttle lock ups.:D Its better to ease the gov lock into locking.... Then nail it.
Get some MT tires. That will improve your whole outlook on your truck.
Then if you want more traction put in a powertrax no slip or an Aussie locker in the front. They are a easy install that just replaces the spiders and dont have to set up the gears.
I run a gov-bomb rear and a Powertrax no slip locker in the front with 33"MT tires. I really like the combo.

Do NOT do that. 1978Blazerk5 has a full time 203 transfer case and its very unsafe and undriveable with a mechanical locker in the front.

Trust me, I've driven mine in front wheel drive only on the street and it sucks bad.

Looks like he has locking hubs on his K5 to me.:dunno:
If installed right he should also have the part time kit in the Xfer case.
